Chongyang Festival (custom of Chongyang in Huangcheng Village)

The custom of Double Ninth Festival in Huangcheng village is a traditional folk custom of respecting the elderly held by the people in the core area of Huangcheng village in Yangcheng County, Shanxi Province.

Since the tenth year of Zhengde (1515) in Ming Dynasty, the custom of Chongyang has been formed in Huangcheng village. It has become a common practice to offer sacrifices to ancestors and respect the elderly, climb high and look far away, enjoy chrysanthemums and drink, and recite poems and lyrics.

On September 9 of the lunar calendar, with Huangcheng village as the center, all towns in Yangcheng County, as well as those in Qinshui and Zezhou, have rich and colorful activities of "providing for the aged, respecting the elderly, loving and helping the elderly". In recent years, large-scale material exchange activities and various folk cultural and sports activities have been resumed.
