Introduction to the Dragon Boat Festival (the custom of Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's hometown)
Applicant: Yichang City, Hubei Province
"May 5 (lunar calendar), the Dragon Boat Festival." The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional festival of the Chinese nation. According to xuqixiji and jingchusuishiji, the Dragon Boat Festival was combined with commemorating Qu Yuan in the Wei, Jin, southern and Northern Dynasties. In the 15th year of the Tang and Yuan Dynasties, Wang Maoyuan, the governor of Guizhou, built Quyuan temple in quyuantuo, Zigui, Quyuan's hometown, and wrote a memorial ceremony. All the villagers and all kinds of dragon boats gathered here as a starting point for dragon boat race, which formed the distinctive characteristics of the Dragon Boat Festival folk custom in Quyuan's hometown. This kind of folk custom continues to this day in Qu Yuan's hometown, forming a tradition.
The Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's hometown is grand and joyful. Generally, it has been held three times. At the beginning of May, the fifth small dragon boat festival hangs Acorus calamus and Artemisia argyi leaves and drinks realgar wine; at the 15th National Dragon Boat Festival, the dragon boat race is held; at the end of May 25, the Dragon Boat Festival delivers plague ships and reunites relatives and friends. Sacrificing Qu Yuan runs through the whole festival activities, including altar worship, river excursion, dragon boat race, zongzi expressing affection, and "making night" in the countryside. Therefore, the folk custom process of the Dragon Boat Festival is more complete, compact and vivid. Since the Ming Dynasty, Zigui farmers have spontaneously organized "saotan Poetry Society" to sing songs of Chu or write Fu during the Dragon Boat Festival, which is unique in the Dragon Boat Festival customs all over the country. The folk custom of Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's hometown not only inherits the content of traditional Dragon Boat Festival custom, but also retains the praise and commemoration of Qu Yuan's spirit and character.
The folk custom of Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan's hometown is a living witness of Chu culture and Dragon Boat Festival Customs in ancient China. It has the research value of outlook on life, values, history, psychology, anthropology and so on. It publicizes and spreads Qu Yuan's spiritual character and the traditional spirit of Chinese culture, humanizes and entertains the traditional ancestor worship and hero worship, and enhances the national cohesion and cultural identity. At the same time, the festival folk also inherits the songs of Chu and other forms of folk culture, with rich cultural connotation.
