Introduction to Yi medicine (Yi medicine water plaster therapy)
Applicant: Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province
Yi medicine is the traditional medicine of Yi people, which is distributed in Chuxiong of Yunnan and Liangshan of Sichuan. Yi medicine divides the natural Qi of heaven and earth into two kinds: pure and turbid Qi, which contains the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. The human body collates the chest, abdomen and five zang organs by clearing Qi, and passes through the muscle surface, abdomen and back by turbid Qi, and the upper and lower six Qi to balance the internal and external evil and poison. This is the Yi People's cognition of life and health, which has become the basic theory of Yi medicine.
Water plaster therapy is a kind of external therapy for clearing away heat and toxin. The climate in Yi nationality area is hot and humid. Insects, cobras, mosquitoes and blackflies are harmful. Miasma and pestilence are poisonous. Furuncle and carbuncle often occur. Water plaster therapy uses well water or ice water, snow water (in winter or collected from high mountains and stored in a jar for standby) to mix herbs and apply them to the affected area. When the boils and sores are not yet broken, one or more herbs should be chopped and mashed, mixed into paste with well water, ice water and snow water, applied to the red, swollen, hot and painful parts, wrapped with gauze externally, and replaced once every 1-2 days. The herbs used, such as green leaf gall, ground gall, Jasminum nudiflorum, wild chrysanthemum, etc., plus water-borne cool, have the functions of clearing heat, detoxifying, detumescence and analgesia.
