Purple bamboo shoot tea, also known as "Guzhu purple bamboo shoot", is produced in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province. Its name is derived from the discussion of "Purple goes up, green goes down; shoot goes up, bud goes down" in the classic of tea. No matter in shape or color, it is "the best of the best". Lu Yu, the tea sage, calls it "fragrant and sweet, ranking in other places".
The production of purple bamboo shoot tea requires picking one bud and one leaf or one bud and two leaves for early development from Qingming to Guyu every year, and then finishing the process of spreading green, killing green, arranging strips, spreading cool, initial drying and re drying. The buds of the best tea are tender, purple and bamboo shoots in shape. When the tea is stretched, it looks like an orchid. It tastes sweet and has a long aftertaste. Tang poetry describes: "peony flower smile, gold Dian move, play Huzhou purple bamboo shoots." Guzhu purple bamboo shoots became the first tea in the Tang Dynasty, and was the highest gift offered by the imperial court. Because of the imperial edict, Guzhu mountain, which is full of beautiful and pregnant women, also ushered in innumerable governor officials and cultural celebrities, such as Yan Zhenqing, Yuan Gao, Jiaoran, Liu Yuxi, Lu Tong, Du Mu, etc.
For a long time, Guzhu villagers regard tea making as an important industry. It is common for women to pick and sort tea and men to make tea. Guzhu mountain in Shuikou still has about 500 mu of ancient tea garden. After decades of inheritance and development, Shuikou purple bamboo shoot tea production technology has become a wonderful flower in China's tea production technology. However, with the continuous expansion of purple bamboo tea planting area, villagers in the production process of purple bamboo tea, in order to pursue quickness, adopted modern production tools, ignored the use of traditional manual skills, and because of the lack of training and talents, the traditional production skills of purple bamboo tea can not be effectively inherited and developed.
