Brief introduction of Yixing purple sand pottery production technology:
Applicant: Yixing City, Jiangsu Province
Yixing hand-made purple sand pottery is a kind of traditional folk pottery making technique, which is distributed in Dingshu Town, Yixing City, Jiangsu Province. The craft was produced in song and Yuan Dynasties and matured in Ming Dynasty. It has a history of more than 600 years. The technique of making purple sand pottery is unparalleled in the world. It takes a kind of purple sand clay (including purple clay, vermilion clay, Benshan green clay, etc.) with special aggregate structure and double pore structure, which is specially produced in Yixing, as raw material. It uses more than 100 kinds of self-made tools, and goes through the process of making clay pieces, flapping body tube (round ware), inlaying body tube (square ware), inlaying and sculpture (flower ware), surface polishing and pottery carving decoration Finally, the ceramic products are finished.
Minghu is the representative of Yixing purple clay pottery. Its objects include light ware (round ware and square ware), rib ware and flower ware. In general, there is no glaze on the inside and outside of the purple sand ware, which takes the pure natural texture and texture as the beauty. As a top-grade tea set, its good air permeability enables people to enjoy the color and fragrance of tea. As a result, purple clay ware is in line with Chinese traditional tea culture and has become an important part of tea culture.
With the development of Chinese tea culture, after the late Ming Dynasty, after a long period of exploration, purple sand pottery makers have created a series of decorative techniques, such as pottery carving, inlaying (inlaying gold, silver, jade, colored clay, mother of pearl, mahogany, porcelain flowers, etc.), tin coating, lacquer coating, clay painting, pastel, colored glaze, enamel, tracing, relief, carving, clay grinding, pattern printing, and decoration. Among them, the most representative is pottery carving, which is a perfect combination of poetry, stone, calligraphy, painting, seal cutting and purple sand making skills, which is in line with the traditional aesthetic standards of the Chinese nation, especially with the aesthetic taste of the literati class. Therefore, purple sand technique has always been full of practical and artistic appreciation of the dual characteristics. After thousands of years of inheritance, the living space, technical characteristics, derived pedigree and traditional cultural connotation of purple sand pottery are still in a good state.
However, as the raw material of purple sand pottery is a scarce mineral resource, it has been over exploited and abused. Coupled with the impact of industrialization, the quality of purple sand pottery is less and less, and the outstanding purple sand pottery production technology has been seriously impacted. How to inherit this excellent folk handicraft technology has become an urgent problem to be solved.
