Introduction to Tibetan calligraphy (dege Tibetan calligraphy)
Applicant: dege County, Sichuan Province
The Tibetan people have always attached great importance to the art of calligraphy. Tibetan calligraphy is famous for its various typefaces. As the most efficient practical writing style, chieftain style is widely used in popular Tibetan culture areas. According to the traditional classification of Tibetan subjects, calligraphy belongs to a small branch of gongqiaoming. There are three types of Tibetan Calligraphy: true calligraphy, running calligraphy and cursive calligraphy. Real calligraphy is used for engraving, running calligraphy is used for official documents and other solemn handwritten characters, and cursive calligraphy is used for ordinary records and letters. Tibetan calligraphy is written with a hard pen. Most of the pens are made of bamboo. There are also iron pens. The colorful Tibetan calligraphy not only has high artistic value, but also contains rich cultural connotation, which provides a broad space for the study of Tibetan literature, philosophy, medicine, music, painting and so on.
Dege Tibetan calligraphy, known as Dezhen in Tibetan, is a kind of traditional Tibetan writing art widely popular in Tibetan areas. Dege Tibetan calligraphy has experienced the evolution from regular script to running script and cursive script, and has a history of more than 700 years. At first, it was mainly used in chieftains, monks, headmen and other strata. It was an official calligraphy style for drafting documents, letters and recording things in dege area. The carving and rubbing of Internal Classics and Sutra plates formed since the establishment of dege Scripture printing academy took dege calligraphy of different styles as the standard style. In the process of transmission and application of Tibetan calligraphy in Kangba area with dege as the center at that time, dege Tibetan calligraphy gradually formed its own artistic style and constantly enriched and improved. At the same time, it has gradually entered the homes of ordinary people and been carried forward in a wide range of social life.
Different from the Tibetan calligraphy in Weizang and Anduo, the regular script and cursive script of dege Tibetan calligraphy have their own unique style. Up to now, many scholars in Kangba area still use the method of dege calligraphy in writing. Dege Tibetan calligraphy is characterized by strong lines, relaxed prefix, exquisite layout and appropriate structure. Its regular script, running script, cursive script and other different styles are characterized by light and vigorous, dignified and flexible, relaxed and sophisticated style.
