Introduction to Hengshui interior painting:
Applicant: Hengshui City, Hebei Province
Hengshui interior painting is a kind of snuff bottle painting technique in Hengshui City, Hebei Province, which is mainly distributed in Hengshui City and its surrounding areas. Its craft is exquisite and unusual. It is regarded as incredible by the outside world.
The interior painting of snuff bottles originated in the Qing Dynasty. In 1696, Emperor Kangxi set up the first glass factory to make snuff bottles, which were awarded to princes, ministers and foreign envoys. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, the selection of materials for snuff bottles was expanded from utensils (glass) and porcelain to Ivory, amber, coral, agate, crystal and bamboo root. During the Jiaqing period, Beijing style interior paintings with specific styles began to appear, and further developed in Xianfeng Period. Their production techniques included writing, painting, carving, carving, carving, carving, carving, burning, welding, chiseling, grinding, inlaying, inlaying, casting, staggering, pasting, painting and molding. In the late Qing Dynasty, a group of masters of interior painting appeared in the capital. Ma Shaoxuan, sun Xingwu and ye zhongsan were good at painting figures. Zhou Yueyuan, Ding Erzhong and Zi Yizi were good at painting landscapes, flowers and birds. Hengshui inner painting is known as the Ji school, which is closely related to the Beijing school. Its founder Wang Xisan is the first disciple of Ye Xiaofeng and ye Fengqi, the sons of Ye zhongsan, an old Beijing artist. In the late 1950s, after mastering the inner painting techniques of the "Ye school" in Beijing, Wang Xisan introduced the fine brushwork "hair tearing" in Chinese painting into the inner painting of snuff bottles. He created a special tool for inner painting of Ji school, metal rod hook brush, namely "Xi San Qu hook pen". The pen holder is straight and can change the direction at will.
Hengshui interior painting introduces the techniques of traditional Chinese painting such as Cun, wipe, dye, dot, hook and tear into interior painting. In 1981, the painting school tried to use oil paint for portrait interior painting. After exploring and mastering the techniques of oil paint interior painting, it broke the limitations of traditional watercolor painting and completed the pioneering work of "combining Chinese and Western painting". Hengshui interior painting has profound conception, rigorous composition, rich line drawing techniques, harmonious color setting, excellent calligraphy and painting, and is highly valued by the world.
Hengshui interior painting is the representative of modern Chinese interior painting. There are a lot of talented people in the industry. There are more than ten first-class painters with their own expertise. Their works are bold and unrestrained, full of poetic and picturesque, and their portraits are light colored, clear-cut and full of texture. However, at present, there is only Wang Xisan's apprenticeship pedigree of Hengshui interior painting, and there is no systematic written record or work. If we do not formulate specific protection measures to strengthen management, this characteristic skill will be difficult to continue.
