A brief introduction to Ergui wrestling of Manchu Nationality
Applicant: Longhua County, Hebei Province
Ergui wrestling of Manchu nationality evolved from the traditional sports competition "Qiao sumo". It is a kind of traditional folk props dance popular in Longhua County, Hebei Province. It was formed around the end of Daoguang (1850) of Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 180 years. Ergui wrestling is a form of solo performance. The performer carries a wooden frame for two people to do wrestling posture. During the performance, we need to wear different colors of clothing, with legs and arms as two people, doing hand and foot wrestling movements. Hidden in the props, the performers make funny, humorous and realistic wrestling movements with martial arts routines, wrestling skills and dance vocabulary, such as swinging, turning, rolling, tumbling, wrestling, sweeping, kicking, blocking, tripping, lifting, twisting and wrestling. All the performances are performed in one go, with drum music as foil.
Ergui wrestling of Manchu nationality is a traditional folk game with special historical, academic, practical, research and ornamental value. Longhua Manchu Ergui wrestling is different from the "two wrestling" or "two ghost wrestling" in other ethnic areas. When performing, it squats on both legs and leans on the ground with both hands directly, forming two exaggerated dwarf wrestling postures. In this way, the action is more flexible and the performance image is more realistic. Its unique artistic charm and stage effect are unmatched by any other form of "wrestling". In recent years, Ergui wrestling has been performed by six to eight people instead of one, and has become a group dance, enhancing the hot and warm atmosphere. However, due to the impact of modern culture and other reasons, Ergui wrestling has gradually declined and almost disappeared, which needs to be protected.
