Introduction to baguazhang

Baguazhang, originally known as Zhuanzhang, is a kind of traditional martial arts. It was created by Dong Haichuan, a native of zhujiajia village, Wen'an County, Hebei Province. Dong was good at martial arts, wandering around the four sides, visiting the famous teacher Gao you, and settled in Beijing in his later years. Based on the skills of juvenile boxing, he took many martial arts essence and step guided exercise methods, and combined with Yi theory, he created the Eight Diagrams Palm method that transforms the palm law into the circle. During the Xianfeng and Tongzhi years of the Qing Dynasty, he received apprentices in Beijing.

The movement characteristic of Bagua palm is to replace fist with palm and walk round. The main contents include laobazhang, 64zhang, mud walking, set posture and palm turning. There are also Ziwu Yuanyang Yue, chicken claw Yinyang sharp, seven star pole unique weapons and weapons with the characteristics of length and weight.

Most of the disciples taught by Dong Haichuan in his life were apprentices. These disciples combined the Eight Trigram Palm with their own learning, which made the Eight Trigram Palm present many styles and schools. Among them, as far as the palm type is concerned, it is mainly divided into two kinds of sports characteristics: ox tongue palm and dragon claw palm. Among the successors of Dong Haichuan, there are many famous hands, among which Yin Fu, Cheng Tinghua, Liang Zhenpu, Zhang Zhaodong, Shi Jidong, Liu Baozhen, fan Zhiyong, Liu Fengchun, etc.

Beijing, as the place where Dong Haichuan first spread the eight trigrams, has a prosperous heritage. The baguazhang Research Association of Beijing Wushu Association, founded in 1982, is the first folk individual boxing Research Association after the founding of new China. The establishment of baguazhang has greatly promoted the work of excavating, sorting out and developing baguazhang.
