Introduction to Nanyin rap
Applicant: Macao Special Administrative Region
Nanyin rap, also known as "Nanyin", was formed in the middle of Qing Dynasty at the latest. It spread in the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong and Macao. It was performed in Cantonese. It is another kind of folk art which is different from Nanyin popular in Southern Fujian.
The traditional performance form of Nanyin rap is playing Qin Zheng, YeHu, Sanxian or Qinhu by one person. Most of the early programs were long ones. Later, there were two people singing to each other, and the program tended to sing short passages, with the accompaniment of dulcimer, clapper and Dongxiao. The libretto is a seven character verse, and the libretto is divided into "benqiang", "Yangzhou Qiang" and "Meihua Qiang". According to the different use and distribution areas of libretto, there are branches and nicknames of "Dishui Nanyin".
Around the 1950s, due to the popularity and spread of radio, Nanyin rap once flourished. Since the 1960s, it has turned to decline. At present, Macao is in danger of extinction. There are only a few inheritors, such as Qu Junxiang. Therefore, the project is in urgent need of support and protection.
