Xiangwu Yangko is mainly popular in Shangdang and Jinzhong areas of Shanxi Province. It originated from the folk social fire activities in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. In the early stage, it was a kind of Yangko called "tiaohao". Later, it absorbed the artistic factors of Xihuo Yangko and Shangdang Bangzi on the basis of local rap and folk song and dance, and flourished in the middle of Qing Dynasty.
Xiangwu Yangko's singing style belongs to banqiang style, and its mode is symbolic mode. In the early stage, it mainly sang minor tunes, and then gradually formed a complete music system, including 12 basic types and various auxiliary types, such as "flowing water", "Luantan" and "Ge Lian ban", as well as Qupai style music, which is lively and melodious in high pitched excitement.
In the early stage, Xiangwu Yangko mainly played the role of "three Xiaos", namely Xiaosheng, Xiaodan and clown. On this basis, Xusheng, Qingyi and Hualian were added. The performance is simple and has a strong flavor of life. There are more than 150 traditional operas and 250 modern operas in Xiangwu Yangko, most of which take family and social life as the theme. The plot is simple and clear, and the language is simple and funny, which fully shows the joys and sorrows of the ordinary people. Among them, the traditional ancient costume operas such as "married wife", "falling flowers" and modern operas such as "Wang GUI and Li Xiangxiang", "Xiao erhei's marriage" are the most influential The representative repertoire of sound.
