Zhoushi town
Zhoushi town is subordinate to Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. It is located in the north of Kunshan City. It is located at the junction of Kunshan, Taicang and Changshu. It is a combination of Zhoushi, Xinzhen and Luyang. The southern part of the town is only one river away from the old urban area of Kunshan and the national Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, and the western part is connected with the national high tech Industrial Development Zone of Kunshan. Nearly half of the town is an important part of the central urban area of Kunshan.
As of October 2015, Luyang has 2 offices, 18 communities and 16 administrative villages with a permanent population of 145818 (2017).
In 2015, Zhoushi town completed the GDP of 21.23 billion yuan, the total industrial output value of 55.55 billion yuan, the added value of service industry of 8.2 billion yuan, the investment in fixed assets of the whole society of 6.82 billion yuan, and the public budget revenue of 2.08 billion yuan. On October 9, 2018, Zhoushi town was selected as one of the top 100 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2018. In 2018, the national health county (township) was reconfirmed. In 1538, the county annals of Kunshan recorded the name of ZhouShu town. In 1724 A.D., Kunshan county was divided into Xinyang County, and the two counties were governed by the same city, belonging to Jishan township of Xinyang County. In 1909, the first year of Xuantong in Qing Dynasty, local autonomy was promoted, and ZhouShu township was set up the next year. in the first year of the Republic of China (1912 AD), Kunshan and Xinyang counties merged into Kunshan County, which is under the jurisdiction of Kunshan county. In 1929, the county was divided into districts. Lujiaqiao and ZhouShu were the tenth districts of Kunshan county. In June 1934, three towns, namely, Bacheng, Shipai and ZhouShu, and six townships, namely, Weizhou, Wanxiang, Huanhu, Xinxu, Sanjiao and Beiliu, all belong to the eighth District of Kunshan county. In December 1942, ZhouShu, Wanxiang, Yaolou, Taiping and Weizhou were designated as the Second District of Kunshan county. In September of the Republic of China, Bacheng and ZhouShu, the first and second districts, were merged into the eighth district. On December 14 of the same year, the eighth district was changed to Bacheng district. In January 1949, the county set up a supervision district, and ZhouShu and Jinji Township were the first supervision district. On May 4, 1949, ZhouShu was liberated. In July, the Township People's government was established, belonging to Bacheng district. In June 1951, it was transferred to Chengbei township. In September 1954, ZhouShu district was transferred to Bacheng district. in March 1956, it was divided into the ring area along with the Ba city. In September 1958, ZhouShu people's commune was established, which was directly under the jurisdiction of the county. In April 1966, it was renamed Zhoushi commune. In June 1983, the government and society were divided and rebuilt into Zhoushi township. On September 28, 1989, Kunshan county was withdrawn to build a city. On November 20, 1990, the whole city implemented the system of town governing village, and Zhoushi city was withdrawn from township to build a town, which is still under the jurisdiction of Kunshan City. in April 2000, it merged with the original new town and became the new Zhoushi town. In December 2003, the administrative division of the whole city was adjusted and Zhoushi town was merged with six villages in Luyang town.
