Shangba Town, belonging to Suzhou District, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, is located in the middle of Suzhou District, adjacent to xiaheqing farm in the East, jinfosi town and Dongdong town from east to West in the south, Zongzhai town in the West and Huajian town in the north. The area is 15 kilometers wide from east to west and 17 kilometers long from north to south, with a total land area of 250 square kilometers.
Before 1949, it was under the jurisdiction of 6 fortresses of Zongzhai Township in Jiuquan county (now Suzhou District). In 1983, Shangba township was established. In 2000, Shangba town was built. Before 1949, it was under the jurisdiction of 6 fortresses of Zongzhai Township in Jiuquan county (now Suzhou District).
Founded in 1950, it belongs to 6 townships under the jurisdiction of Zongzhai district (7 districts).
In 1955, the district was withdrawn and merged into Shangba and Yinger townships.
In 1958, Zongzhai commune and Yinger commune were established by merging the townships in the four flood areas of Zongzhai Xidian, Shangba and Jiquan. At the end of the same year, the two communes were merged into Zongzhai commune.
In 1961, the system was reformed and adjusted. Shangba and Yinger communes were set up separately by Zongzhai commune.
In 1965, Yinger commune was incorporated into Shangba commune.
In 1966, Shangba commune was renamed self reliant commune.
