Pingwang town
Pingwang Town, a famous historical and cultural town in Jiangsu Province, is subordinate to Wujiang District of Suzhou City, connecting Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou, Hangzhou, Jiaxing and Huzhou in the Yangtze River Delta.
Pingwang town has a total area of 135.65 square kilometers and a total population of 129173 people (in 2017). The town has 21 administrative villages and 7 communities.
In 2013, the GDP of Pingwang town exceeded 10 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 15.4%; the total industrial output value was 27 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 12.5%; the total investment in fixed assets was 6.6 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 23.1%; the public budget revenue was 556 million yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 11%; the total import and export value was 405 million US dollars; the total retail sales of social consumer goods was 2.9 billion yuan.
In October 2019, Pingwang town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019".
In July 2020, the National Patriotic Health Association confirmed Pingwang town as a national health Township in 2019.
History of construction
From Wu to Tang, Pingwang was a dependency of Jiaxing county.
Tang Kaiyuan belongs to Wucheng County, Huzhou Prefecture.
In the 28th year of Kaiyuan period of Tang Dynasty, the old people of Suzhou requested that the west of pingwangyi and the 50li of Nanxun should belong to Wuxian County, while the south of pingwangyi still belonged to Wucheng county.
In the third year of Kaiping in the Later Liang Dynasty, Qian Liu, king of Wu and Yue, asked him to cut the southern part of Wu County and the northern part of Jiaxing to Wujiang county.
In the 16th year of the Yuan Dynasty, Zhang Shicheng occupied Pingjiang road in Jiangsu Province and built the city in Pingwang Xiatang, which belongs to Longping mansion.
In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, the famous general Yuchun defeated Zhang Shicheng and destroyed Pingwang Tucheng as a town, belonging to Suzhou mansion.
In the fourth year of Yongzheng reign of Qing Dynasty, the old Wujiang county was divided into Wujiang and Zhenze counties. Pingwang is bounded by canal and lanxitang, Wujiang in the East and Zhenze in the West.
After the revolution of 1911, Wujiang and Zhenze were merged into Wujiang County, which was divided into six cities and twelve townships, and Pingwang was Pingxi township.
In August 1929, 18 cities and townships in the county were divided into 10 districts, and Pingwang was the eighth district.
In September 1934, Wujiang county was divided into eight districts, and Pingwang was still the eighth district.
In 1937, the Japanese imperialists invaded China and expected to fall.
In the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940 AD), Wang puppet regime set up Pingwang district. Pingwang district was the third district of Wujiang County in 1943.
In August 1945, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the Kuomintang government took over power and set up the Pingwang district.
In March of 1947, Pingwang district was changed into horizontal sector.
On May 3, 1949, Pingwang was liberated and Pingwang district was set up.
In May 1953, Pingwang town rose from a district town to a county town.
In March 1956, Pingwang district and Shengtan District merged into Shengtan district. In October 1957, Shengze district was withdrawn and Pingwang village was established.
In September 1958, Pingwang commune was established in Pingwang rural area.
In May 1959, Pingwang commune and Pingwang town were merged, and Pingwang town was managed by Pingwang commune management committee.
In September 1965, Pingwang commune was separated from Pingwang town. Pingwang town is a county town, and rural areas are still Pingwang commune.
In July 1983, Pingwang commune was changed into Pingwang township.
In October 1985, Pingwang Township and Pingwang town were merged into Pingwang town under the county, and the new system of town governing village was implemented.

In March 1947, Pingwang district was changed into Hengfan District, which governed two towns and nine townships: Pingwang town and Hengfan Town, Pingbei Township, Pingxi Township, Xigang Township, Xixi Township, chongpu Township, Guangrong Township, Meiyan Township, Zhouping Township and Zhonglie township.
Pingwang was liberated on May 3, 1949. By taking over, Pingwang district was set up, with jurisdiction over Pingwang Town, Hengfan Town, Meiyan Township and Xigang township. To abolish the system, street committees should be set up below the town, with residents' groups under it. Administrative villages should be set up in rural areas, with villagers' groups under it.
In October 1957, Shengze district was removed. Pingwang township was established in Pingwang rural area, with jurisdiction over Pingbei, Dagu, Pingxi and Xigang.
In September 1958, Pingwang township was abolished and Pingwang commune was established, with 23 brigades under its jurisdiction.
In 1959, it was adjusted to 21 production teams and 189 production teams.
In March 1968, Pingwang commune had 28 brigades including Qunxing, Lixing, Jinxing, Xinfeng, Lianfeng, shengdun, liannong, Lianhe, Liuwan, Xigang, Xinmin, Qianjin, Gufan, Zenghe, Xiaowei, Xingfu, Sanlian, Tongxin, Hongqi, Xinlian, Jinlian, Jianxin, Zhuangtian, Shengli, Gonglian, Xinnong, Fuxing and fishery. In July 1983, the Pingwang people's commune management committee was changed into Pingwang Township People's government, the brigade was changed into a village, and a villagers' committee was set up. In the second year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1369), it was a complex place in the thoroughfare of eight provinces, with three li in the ground and thousands of residents. In 1929, there were 10871 households with 40168 people. In August 1930, Qingxiang Branch Bureau was organized and household survey was started.
