Zhangyan town
Zhangyan town belongs to Jinshan District of Shanghai. It is located in the middle of Jinshan District. Zhangyan town is located in the southwest of Shanghai, the core city of the triangle metropolitan area. It connects Hangzhou Bay Bridge in the South and Shanghai Center in the north. It is an important economic and cultural town in the middle of Jinshan District, and it is also the "back garden" of Jinshan new town. With an area of 34.93 square kilometers and a population of 40357 (in 2017), the town has jurisdiction over 9 villages and 4 communities.
In 2010, it was awarded the honorary title of the fifth batch of "famous historical and cultural towns in China" by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development and the State Administration of cultural relics. In November 2017, Zhangyan town was awarded the fifth national civilized village.
Historical evolution
Zhangyan town was formerly known as chisongli. It is said that Zhang Liang, the Han Dynasty Marquis, lived here when he traveled from chisongzi. Therefore, it is also called Liuxi and Zhangxi. In the Jin Dynasty, a commercial market was formed, and it was called Liuxi town at that time.
In Tang Dynasty, eighteen weirs of Huating were set up for yuhaichao, one of which was Zhangjing weir. The name of Zhangyan was adopted by the town, commonly known as Zhangyan.
In the Ming Dynasty, Jinshan inspection department and tax bureau were set up in the town. In Qing Dynasty, Jinshan branch government was set up in the town. The name of Zhangyan town has been inherited from the late Tang and Five Dynasties for 1100 years.
After the fourth year of Yongzheng (1726), it belonged to Jinshan County.
In 1935, Zhangyan was designated as Liuxi and Qinming towns.
In 1946, it became Zhangyan Town, a county town, and set up Zhangyan District Department to supervise 11 townships and towns in the south of the county.
In December 1993, Zhangyan town and Zhangyan Township merged to establish a new Zhangyan town.

In 1985, Zhangyan town governed Antong, Jiefang, Heping and Dongfeng communities; Zhangyan Township governed Jiugang, sangyuan, Yongli, Luyan, Baijia, Gaoqiao, Jieshan, Qinshan, Qinwang, Qinyang, Hejing and Jiannong 12 administrative villages and 184 villager groups.
In 1993, Zhangyan town and Zhangyan Township were abolished and Zhangyan town was established.
By the end of 1995, it had jurisdiction over Antong, Jiefang, Heping and Dongfeng communities and 12 administrative villages including Luyan, Hejing, sangyuan, Jiugang, Jiaoli, Jiannong, Qinyang, Qinshan, Qinwang, Jieshan, Baijia and Gaoqiao.
In 2004, it has jurisdiction over three communities of Dongfeng, Jiefang and Fumin, and nine administrative villages of Jiugang, sangyuan, Luli, lunian, Baijia, Qinwang, Qinshan, Qinyang and Jiannong.

Zhangyan town is located in the middle of Jinshan District, 120 ° 9 ′ E and 30 ° n, adjacent to Tinglin town and Shanyang town in the East, Jinshanwei town in the South and West, and Lvxiang town in the northwest. The northwest part is slightly lower, belonging to the southeast outer edge of Songyin low plain, with the ground elevation of 3.4-3.8m; the southeast part is slightly higher, belonging to the northwest outer edge of Jinwei high plain, with the ground elevation of 3.8-4m. In 2017, Zhangyan town covers an area of 34.93 square kilometers.

Zhangyan town has a subtropical humid monsoon climate with four distinct seasons, sufficient sunshine and abundant rainfall. Shanghai has a mild and humid climate, short spring and autumn, warm winter and cool summer. January is the coldest with an average temperature of about 4 ℃. Usually July is the hottest with an average temperature of about 28 ℃.
Geology and geomorphology
Zhangyan town is located in the south wing of the Yangtze River Delta and the southeast end of the dished depression in the Taihu Lake Basin. The terrain of the whole area is low and flat, the ground elevation rises slightly from northwest to Southeast, and the rivers and canals interweave into a network. The geomorphology of the county has experienced the late Yanshanian geological movement, the alternation of cold and hot paleoclimate in Cenozoic and the slow subsidence of the earth's crust in the past 3 million years. As a result, loose rock layers with thickness ranging from 0 to 285 meters have accumulated on the basement of pre Quaternary strata, creating the present geomorphology. According to the external dynamic process, genesis and morphology of geomorphology, it can be divided into six geomorphic units: Lake marsh depression, lacustrine plain, lagoon plain, coastal plain, tidal flat and denuded residual hill.

Zhangyan primary school, formerly known as private Zhangyan Liuxi primary school, was founded in 1898, a century old school. In May 1949, after the liberation of Jinshan and the people's government took over the school, it was named Zhangyan Central Primary School. In 1960, it was designated as the county key primary school. In 1998, some school buildings were first built in the south of Kangle community in Zhangyan Town, and 12 village primary schools were merged. The original central school buildings were retained as school branches. The two departments merged in September 2003. In 2006, the school changed its name to "Zhangyan primary school in Jinshan District, Shanghai". The school covers an area of 40 mu, with a construction area of 8000 square meters. Zhangyan middle school is located in Liuxi Road, Zhangyan town. In August 1937, Fang Chongzhi, Ren Daoyuan and others initiated the establishment of Zhangyan junior middle school cram school by borrowing the Lu family ancestral hall in Zhangyan town. After the Japanese invasion, the cram school was closed. In 1942, Ren Daoyuan, Cao Zhongfu and others borrowed Zhang Yan library and Yao's ancestral hall to open Zhang Yan Academy. In 1945, the Academy was renamed private Punan middle school. After liberation, the people's government took over the school. In the autumn of 1956, it became a public Zhangyan middle school. In 1958, a high school class was set up as a complete middle school. In 1978, it was designated as the county key middle school. In 1997, it became a full-time senior high school.
