Gangtun town

Gangtun town belongs to Lianshan District, Huludao City, Liaoning Province. It is located in the Midwest of Lianshan District, with convenient transportation and a total population of 32716 (2017). It governs 17 administrative villages with a total area of 148.15 square kilometers, 30 kilometers away from Huludao City. JINDA line and old steel line pass through the town.

Historical evolution

The commune was established in 1958, the township was established in 1983, and the town was established in 1984. In 1996, it covers an area of 147 square kilometers and has a population of 34000. It governs 22 administrative villages, including Gangdong, Gangxi, Gangnan, beidinanzi, nandinianzi, Longwangmiao, cuiliutun, xilalatun, Wangtun, Antun, loufang, Lanjiagou, Baimiaozi, Majiagou, piandaozi, xialanjiagou, fuytun, Zhangjiagou, renyitun, caotantun, donglaoyemiao and jiajiagou. In 2002, the town government was stationed in Gangtun, with a population of 34300 and an area of 148.15 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 22 administrative villages, including Gangdong, Gangxi, Gangnan, beidinanzi, nandinianzi, Longwangmiao, cuiliutun, lalatun, Wangtun, Antun, loufang, Lanjiagou, Baimiaozi, Majiagou, piandaozi, xialanjiagou, fuitun, Zhangjiagou, renyitun, caotantun, Laoyemiao and Jiagou.

It is rich in mineral resources, mainly including molybdenum, iron, lead-zinc, manganese and so on, in which the output of molybdenum ore occupies an important position in the country. The terrain is high in the southeast and low in the northwest. The highest peak is Yuhuangding of dahongluoshan, 902 meters above sea level. The nuerhe River and its tributaries are the most important rivers in the town. The annual precipitation is about 400mm. The Party committee and government of the town continue to strengthen the afforestation work. The forest coverage rate of the town has reached 45.8%, and it has been rated as "national advanced afforestation unit" by the national Greening Committee, the Ministry of personnel and the State Forestry Administration.

Gangtun is an important economic town in Lianshan area with developed mining and mineral processing industry. The output of molybdenum fine sand, the leading product, occupies an important position in China. The town Party committee and government have continuously strengthened industrial management, implemented the safety production deposit system and safety officer system for mining enterprises, conducted safety evaluation for all mines and tailings pond of concentrator, implemented sunshine operation, made public bidding and leasing for expired mining enterprises, reformed enterprise employment system and improved transparency, resulting in good economic and social benefits. Gangtun town is actively developing characteristic agriculture and ecological agriculture. Beidi village and cuiliutun village are actively exploring the production of off-season grapes, cucumbers and xihongben, and several large growers such as Shi Guangqi have emerged.
