After the liberation of Chongming in June 1949, the Township People's government was first established in Jibang area.
In April 1950, Jibang township was divided into three small townships, namely Qifen Township, Jibang Township and Beixing township.
In November 1950, the three townships were demolished into five townships (namely Qifu Township, Fuzhong Township, Jibang Township, Xinxing Township and Beixing township).
In March 1956, five townships merged with two townships (i.e. Fuzhong Township and Jibang township).
In September 1957, Jibang township was established by merging Jizhong Township and Jibang Township in Xianghua district. At the same time, Jibang Township Committee of the Communist Party of China was established.

In 1984, the system reform of the whole county set up two-level organizations of Township Community, Jibang commune and Jibang Township coexisted, and division of labor management was implemented.
