Gaoqiao Town belongs to Ansai District, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is located in the south of Ansai District, in the middle reaches of Xichuan River, bordering Zaoyuan Town, Baota District, Yan'an City in the East, louping Township in the south, zhuanyaowan town in the west, Yanhewan town and Zhaoan town in the north. The maximum distance from east to west is 25 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is 24 kilometers, with a total area of 308.37 square kilometers.

As of June 2020, Gaoqiao Town has 11 administrative villages. As of 2018, Gaoqiao Town registered residence population of 17724. In 2011, the total agricultural output value of Gaoqiao Town was 141.85 million yuan, and the total sales of social goods was 06 million yuan.

Historical evolution

In the past, there was a stone high bridge beside the village, which was called Gaoqiao village. The town is named after the village.

In September 1937, it was Gaoqiao township.

In 1949, Gaoqiao township was still established.

In September 1958, Xingfu commune was established; in December of the same year, it was assigned to Yan'an county.

In September 1961, it returned to Ansai County and was renamed Gaoqiao commune.

In September 1983, the township was restored.

In June 2011, the town was changed, louping township was abolished and Gaoqiao Town was merged.

History and culture

Memorial of Zhang sider's sacrifice

The memorial site of Zhang sider's sacrifice is located in luopingchuan village, Gaoqiao Town, Ansai District, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. In early 1944, responding to the call of the mass production movement of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Zhang side took the initiative to sign up for the production team organized by the central authorities. He went to Ansai County production farm, more than 70 miles away from Yan'an, and was selected as the vice leader of the farm. In July of the same year, he went to shixiayu, louping Township, Ansai county to burn charcoal. On September 5, when it was raining, Zhang sider and his commando comrades went into the mountain as usual to dig a new kiln. At noon, the kiln collapsed in the rain. At the critical moment, Zhang sider pushed soldier Xiaobai out of the kiln mouth, but he was buried in the collapsed soil. His comrades in arms were saved, but Zhang sider gave his life at the age of 29. Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the Elegy "pay homage to Comrade Zhang sider who died for the people's interests" and delivered the speech "serve the people", which highly praised Zhang sider's ideological realm and revolutionary spirit of completely and thoroughly serving the people. Since then, the thought of serving the people wholeheartedly has laid the fundamental purpose of the Chinese Communists in building the party and governing the country.

On October 7, 2019, the memorial site of Zhang sider's sacrifice was listed as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.
