In the Qin Dynasty, Guilin Street belonged to the kingdom of Shu; in June 2006, Guilin town was withdrawn and merged with Dongfeng District of Zitong town to set up Guilin street. In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Pengxi county.
After the first year of the Republic of China (1912), it belonged to guangui Township, the first district of Tongnan district.
In January 1950, Guilin township was established.
In September 1951, Guilin Township set up Xinlin township.
In May 1956, Xinlin township was merged into Guilin township.
In April 1957, Xinlin Township and Guilin Township were set up separately.
In September 1958, Guilin township was changed into Guilin commune.
In December 1983, it was changed from Guilin commune to Guilin township.
In December 1993, Guilin Township and Xinlin Township merged into Guilin town.
In June 2006, Guilin town was withdrawn and merged with Dongfeng District of Zitong town to set up Guilin street.
