Upper mill town
Shangmofang township is located 7 kilometers east of Daixian County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, China. It is located on the North Bank of Hutuo River, adjacent to Zaolin town in the East and Shangguan town in the West. The northern mountainous area connects with Shanyin County, and yukou Township in the south. Jingyuan railway and national highway 108 pass along the north of the township, so the traffic is very convenient. There are 34 natural villages with 10918 permanent residents (2017). The basic conditions of agriculture are good and the rural economy is developing rapidly.
Division evolution
At the beginning of liberation, shangmoufang township was under the jurisdiction of Daixian District 2. It was designated as shangmoufang Township in 1953, Daicheng commune in 1958, shangmoufang commune was established in 1961, shangmoufang township was changed in 1984, and hujiatan township was incorporated into the township in December 2000. The origin of the name of the township is due to the fact that the government once worked as a mill here in the old days.
