Longgang Town
Longgang town is subordinate to Yangxin County, Hubei Province. It is located on the border of Hubei and Jiangxi. It is adjacent to Mufu mountains in the south, Fushui upstream in the north and Tongshan County, Wuning county and Ruichang City in Jiangxi Province in the south. The center is located at 114 ° 53 ′ E and 29 ° 33 ′ n. the terrain is high in the South and low in the north. It covers an area of 264.38 square kilometers (2017). It has 200000 mu of mountain farm and 50000 mu of cultivated land. It governs 38 administrative villages (neighborhood committees) with a total population of 100027 people (2017). It is the largest town in Yangxin. In 1997, it was listed as a key "kouzi town" in Hubei Province, and in 2002, it became a pilot town of small town reform in Huangshi City. In 2008, it was listed as the fourth batch of famous historical and cultural towns in China.
The main scenic spots in the town include Red Army Street, Lotus Temple, Fengqi cave and the old site of Longgang revolution.
History of construction
Longgang town was formed at the end of Yuan Dynasty. It was called Longchuan city in Ming Dynasty and changed to Longgang city in late Qing Dynasty. In June 1949, it was the Fifth District of Yangxin County; in October 1951, it was changed into the eighth district; in January 1956, it was renamed as Longgang District; in December 1958, it was established as Longgang people's commune; in June 1961, it was renamed as Longgang District; in February 1975, it was abolished and three people's communes, namely Longgang, Yanggang and Fushui, were established; in February 1984, it was established as Longgang, Yanggang and Fushui Longgang District was established by the merger of the three communes in water; in December 1985, the district was withdrawn and the Yanggang was designated as Longgang town; in September 1987, Longgang town was divided into two towns, Longgang Town and Fushui town; in March 2001, the system of Fushui town was abolished and merged into Longgang town.
