Xinji Town, Xinxian County, Xinyang City, Henan Province, is located in the hinterland of Dabie Mountains and the watershed of Jianghuai river. It is the seat of the new county Party committee and county government. Historically, it is an important town on the border of Henan and Hubei. In 1985, the former Chengguan town and Chengjiao Township were merged to build the town, and in December 2005, it was merged with the former daizui township. Xinji district was set up in 1949, renamed Hongqi commune in 1958, divided into Chengjiao commune and Chengguan town in 1962, changed into Xinji Township in 1981, and Xinji Township and Chengguan Town merged into Xinji Town in 1985.
