Fengshan Town

Fengshan Town, also known as Chengguan Town, is a town under the jurisdiction of Luotian County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province. It is located in the south of the county, bordering kuanghe and Bailianhe townships in the East and Southeast, luotuoao town and Xishui County in the south, SANLIFAN town and Pinghu Township in the west, and Hepu Town, baimiaohe town and daheban town in the north. It is the political, economic and cultural center of the county.

Fengshan Town is a mountainous town with a long history and beautiful scenery. It is located in the hinterland of Dabie Mountains in the east of Hubei Province and Huanggang City. It has superior geographical location, convenient transportation and developed communication. The whole town covers an area of 257.23 square kilometers (2017), with 48 villages, 5 community neighborhood committees, 23 town run enterprises and 1 town owned forest farm under its jurisdiction. The total population is 158356 people (2017), of which the urban area is 10 square kilometers, the urban population is 80000, and the urban planning area is 20 square kilometers. The town government is located in Fengshan. There are famous scenic spots in Ciyun Temple, fenghuangguan reservoir in Luotian, Tashan, Li mangyan, Qingyuan temple, etc.

Evolution of organizational system

In 1304 (the eighth year of Dade in the Yuan Dynasty), Zhou Guang, the county magistrate, moved the county government from Kuishan to guanduhe (Fengshan Town, the county seat).

In the Ming Dynasty, Luotian belonged to Qizhou Prefecture of Huguang Prefecture at the beginning, and then to Huangzhou Prefecture, which governed Fengshan Town.

In the early Qing Dynasty, according to the Ming system, it was later renamed Huangzhou Prefecture of Hubei Province, and the county governed Fengshan Town.

During the period of the Republic of China, it successively belonged to Jianghan Road, the third administrative supervision district and the second administrative supervision district of Hubei Province. During the Anti Japanese War, it was once an administrative office in Eastern Hubei.

In 1986, it had jurisdiction over Fengshan Town sub district office, changtangao Township, Beifeng Township, shiyuanhe Township and Sanliqiao township.

In September 1987, Fengshan Town was divided into Fengshan Town and Beifeng town; the sub district office, shiyuanhe town and Sanliqiao town were designated as Fengshan Town; changtangao town and Beifeng town were merged into Beifeng town.

On February 28, 2001, Fengshan Town was merged with Beifeng Township, with 47 administrative villages, 1 sericulture farm, 5 communities and 511 villager groups under its jurisdiction.

In 2005, it covers an area of 257 square kilometers, with 54501 mu of arable land. Among them, paddy field is 43983 mu.
