Zhongshan street is gradually formed by a small border port. After the Yuan Dynasty, the residents of Fujian and Chaozhou moved southward from sea to Chikan, settled in today's Zhongshan street and engaged in business activities such as workshops. In 1684, there were thirty or forty families who moved to the south of Fujian and Chaozhou. They lived in today's Yong'an street, Ping'an Street and gugudu street. With the lifting of the "sea ban" and the recovery and development of maritime traffic and trade between coastal areas, more and more businessmen from Fujian and other places came to Chikan to do business and settle down. Businessmen from Leizhou, Gaozhou, Guangfu, chaoqiong and other places also carried goods to Chikan for trade. Later, some merchants settled down in Chikan. They were well with the local residents, so they constantly attracted fellow villagers to do business in Chikan for a long time Today's Chaozhou street, Fukien street, Gaozhou street, Sanhe street, Datong Street, Yanbu street and Shuixian Street are formed by gathering together. During the Daoguang period (1821-1850), Chikan small commercial port, with today's Zhongshan street as the main body, developed into an important commercial town connecting Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and other places, with more than 5000 residents in Zhongshan District. In 1899, after the French rented Guangzhou Bay, they built the French Road (now Zhongshan 2nd Road). In today's Chikan Cultural Palace, a fahua school was built. In 1939, Chen xuetan invested in the construction of Nanhua Hotel on Zhongshan Road, and Xu aizhou also built the gem restaurant on Zhongshan Road, forming Jing Street, Nishui street, Nanxing street, Zhongxing Street, Zhongshan Road, etc. Zhongshan Street covers an area of 1.3 square kilometers. In 1953, after the founding of new China, Zhongshan street was under the jurisdiction of Chikan Central Street office. In 1958, Zhongshan District was changed into an administrative sub district office. When Chikan people's commune of Zhanjiang City was established in June 1960, Zhongshan administrative sub district office was changed to Zhongshan sub district management area. It was renamed Zhongshan Revolutionary Committee in 1968 and Zhongshan administrative sub district office in 1980. Zhongshan street is the birthplace of Chikan ancient commercial port with dense population and prosperous business. Zhongshan Road, Sanhe street, Zhongxing Street, Fujian street, Chaozhou street, Nanxing street, Yanbu street, Datong Street, Yanfang street and Gaozhou Street are the oldest commercial streets in the street. After the founding of new China, Chenguang primary school was renamed Zhanjiang sixth primary school, and Zanhua primary school was renamed Zhanjiang fourth primary school. The people's government established Zhanjiang No.11 middle school and Zhanjiang No.1 kindergarten in Zhongshan District. By 2000, Zhongshan street had one junior middle school with 681 students, two primary schools with 3450 students, and six kindergartens (including kindergartens run by social forces) with more than 1200 children.
