Shutai Township

Shutai township is located in the southwest of Haiyuan County, 32 kilometers away from the county. It borders Nanhua mountain conservation forest and Hongyang Township in the East, Guanzhuang Township in the south, Jingning and Huining counties in Gansu Province in the west, and Xi'an town in the north. It is the junction of the three counties (Hai, Jing and Hui) in the two provinces (ning and GaN).

The topography of Shutai township is complex. The southeast part is a semi humid hilly area, and the northwest part is a semi-arid loess hilly area. Shutai township was established in 1952, commune in 1958, and township in 1984. In 1997, it covers an area of 454.2 square kilometers and has a population of 22000. It governs nine administrative villages, namely Shutai, 200hu, Langtang, Hongjing, Dazui, Xiangtong, Xinzhuangzi, shaiwan and Hanzhuang.

Nine administrative villages are respectively distributed above the five fingers. The township government is located at the lower end of the palm, and the Xiaohong highway runs through it. There are 35 schools and 67 religious places in the township. the local area has high altitude, low temperature and short frost free period, with an average altitude of 2256m, an annual average temperature of 5.5 ℃ and a frost free period of 125 days. The average annual precipitation is only about 320mm, mostly concentrated in July, August and September. Natural disasters are frequent, including drought, sandstorm, hail, frost and flood. Among them, drought is the most serious, with the frequency of 57% in spring, 50% in summer and 18% in autumn. The main mineral resources are gypsum, but the reserves are small and the mining value is not high. There are more than 800 species of wild plants, including Pteridium aquilinum, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Nostoc flagelliforme, Vallisneria, etc., which belong to more than 90 families, 400 genera, but they have not formed a considerable scale of product advantages. The main crops are potatoes, peas, buckwheat, flax, wheat and so on.
