Maai town
Maai Town, belonging to Luqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, is located in the west of Luqu County, with Xicang Township in the East, Gahai Township in the south, Henan Mongolian Autonomous County of Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province in the West and Xiahe County in the north. The area is 850.72 square kilometers. In 2018, 12163 people registered residence.
In 1955, before the establishment of Luqu, its jurisdiction was originally the Xicang tribal area. In 1958, the peace commune was established. In January 1959, it merged with Hongxing (now kecai Township, Xiahe County) commune to become kecai commune. At the end of 1961, it was restored to maai township. In 1966, it was renamed Dongfeng Township. In 1968, the original name was restored and the Revolutionary Committee was established in the same year. At the beginning of 1984, the commune was changed into a township. In 2003, the township was removed and the town was built. In June 2020, maai town governs 2 communities and 4 administrative villages.
In 2018, there were 6 industrial enterprises in maai town and 8 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters.
Historical evolution
In 1955, before the establishment of Luqu, its jurisdiction was originally the Xicang tribal area.

At the end of 2011, maai town had two neighborhood committees, namely Dongcheng, Xicheng and Hongke, and four villager committees, namely maai, Jiage, Huage and Hongke, with 16 villager groups.
In June 2020, maai town governs two communities and four administrative villages: Chengdong community, Chengxi community, maai village, Jiage village, Huage village and Hongke village. The town people's government is stationed in maai village.

Maai town is high in the West and low in the East. The terrain is divided into basin and mountain. The main mountain ranges are Xiqingshan, the highest peak in the territory is rizai, which is located in the middle of liqiaru mountain, the North Branch of Xiqingshan, bordering Qinghai. The altitude is 4483 meters, and the lowest point is wuhuzhatan in the East alaxiang River Valley, with the altitude of 2860 meters.

Among the total population, 8464 (84%) are mainly Tibetan, 800 (8%) are Han, and 800 (8%) are Hui, Dongxiang, Tu and Bao'an.
