Caofeng Town, belonging to Kongtong District, Pingliang City, Gansu Province, is located in the northern tableland of Kongtong District, Pingliang City. It is adjacent to Baishui town in the East, Shilipu town in the south, Zhaihe and Xianglian Township in the west, Honghe township of Pengyang County in the northwest, and Xiaocha township of Zhenyuan County in Qingyang City in the north. The total area of the administrative area is 201.3 square kilometers. Up to 2018, the registered residence population in Cao Feng town was 33274.
In ancient times, Caofeng town was the place of garrison, with abundant forage. It was named Caofeng, also known as fotangyuan. In September 1949, it was Anding District. In March 1958, the district was withdrawn and divided into yuzhai and Caofeng townships. In June 1961, it was changed into Caofeng commune, and then divided into Yangzhuang commune and Caofeng commune. In 2002, communes were transformed into townships. As of June 2020, Caofeng town has jurisdiction over 21 administrative villages.

In October 1979, it was divided into Yangzhuang and Caofeng communes. Later, communes were transformed into townships.
In August 2002, Yangzhuang township was merged into Caofeng town.
