Jiyuan town belongs to Dingbian County, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. It is located in the southwest of Dingbian County, adjacent to Fanxue town in the East, Huan County in Gansu Province in the south, Mahuangshan Township in Yanchi County in Ningxia in the west, and fengdikeng town in the north. The maximum distance from east to west is 50 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is 36.2 kilometers, with a total area of 528 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
It got its name from the town people's Government in Jiyuan village.
From the Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China, it was under the jurisdiction of sanshantang. Later, it was changed into Sanmin Township, with Bao and Jia.
In 1936, after the liberation of Dingbian, Dinghuan county was set up.
In 1937, it was restored to Dingbian county. Jiyuan is located in six districts and juxtaposed with Jiyuan township.
In 1958, the commune was established.
In 1984, it was changed to township.
In 1997, it was changed into Jiyuan town.
In 2001, Baoziwan Township and liumaoyuan Township were merged into Jiyuan town.
