Jianyucha town is also known as Chong'er Chuan. It is said that Chong'er, Duke Wen of Jin Dynasty, took refuge here for 13 years when he was in exile. It still retains the ancient traditions and customs, and has a unique scenery during the Chinese New Year.
As soon as the lunar month comes, every family is busy making Youmo, Huangmo, Yougao (these three are famous snacks in Northern Shaanxi, made of yellow rice) and "eight bowls" (namely eight bowls of meat dishes, including crisp chicken, crisp meat, stewed mutton, braised pork, etc.). Different from other places, the lunar new year in Northern Shaanxi is the sixth day of the first month instead of the 23rd day of the twelfth month. Twenty three is the beginning of the new year. On this day, the kitchen god wants to go to heaven, so every family has to eat mixed noodles (a kind of pasta made of peas) to set up a ladder for the kitchen god. From the 23rd of December, the atmosphere of Chinese New Year is getting stronger and stronger. On New Year's Eve, in the early morning, men stick couplets and hang lanterns, and housewives set up oil pots to fry oil cakes. By four or five o'clock in the afternoon, the new year's Eve dinner had been served. In the past, when the conditions were tough, a large family only relied on a small pot of fried pork to get greedy. Now, the living conditions are better. There are all kinds of chicken, duck and fish on the table. The "eight bowls" that were made before are also on the table. The stir fried pork is a reserved item. On New Year's Eve, people in Northern Shaanxi are no different from those outside, but they still retain some characteristics in other aspects.
In the customs of Northern Shaanxi, the new year's Eve is the year of ghosts, also known as the new year, which is the year of ghosts and gods. It is necessary to build a "fire tower", that is, to build a "pagoda" about one meter high with coal. When night falls, it will be lit. Then, ice and some broken coal from the river will be sprinkled in the courtyard to dispel evil spirits and bless peace. On that night, the married daughter had to spend the new year in her mother-in-law's house,
