The town is subordinate to Heyang County, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province. It is located in the northeast of Heyang County, adjacent to Qiachuan town in the East, Chengguan town in the west, Xinchi town in the South and Bailiang town in the north. The maximum distance from east to west is 13.7 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is 14.1 kilometers, with a total area of 114.10 square kilometers.

In 2011, the total industrial output value of Fangzhen was 37.2 million yuan, the balance of various deposits was 96 million yuan, and the balance of various loans was 74 million yuan.
Historical evolution
In the Ming Dynasty, it got its name because of the gathering of merchants and numerous handicraft workshops.
In 1958, Fangzhen commune was established.
In 1961, the administrative division was adjusted and the original system was retained.
In 2002, the original six townships were merged into Fang town.
In 2011, Zhibao township (government in nanzhibao Village) was incorporated into Fangzhen town through institutional reform.

The landform of Fushan mountain in Heyang is very special. The whole mountain is like a scorpion lying in the gully, so the local people vividly call it "scorpion mountain". There is a folk saying that "cornucopia, Fushou mountain, scorpion lying in the middle of the basin". In 2001, during the aerial photography of Qiachuan scenic spot, the photographers who had never been to Qiachuan were worried that they could not find Fushan in the air. In 1867, both the front and back halls and the two verandas were destroyed by war. In 1882, the original buildings were restored and the Sanqing Pavilion, Kuixing Pavilion, Tudi Pavilion and Kuixing pagoda were built.
