The origin of place names
In the spring and Autumn period, the state of Jin set up Oak City. In the 15th year of Jinggong of Qin Dynasty (562 BC), the state of Qin conquered Quercus. In the second year of Xiangong (383 BC), the state of Qin moved its capital to Liyi, which was renamed as Liyang (in Wutun Town, Yanliang District). During the reign of emperor Xuanwu of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Liyang was moved to its present site, hence its name.
