Historical evolution
The name of "Zhanhe" came from the flourishing silver mines in Bainiuchang during the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty. In order to collect taxes and guard against theft, the Qing government strengthened its armament and tax agencies and set up station cards for inspection. After liberation, it was changed into "Zhanhe". The township government is 62 kilometers south of the county, with an altitude of 2500 meters. It borders Yongxing township of Huaping County in the East and Jinguan town and Yangping Yi township of Yongsheng County in the southwest, with a total area of 570.65 square kilometers and a permanent population of 24185 (2017). It has jurisdiction over 7 administrative villages and 79 natural villages. Except for the Pumi nationality in Ma'anshan natural village of muerping, the rest are all Yi nationality. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was a slavery area. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Liangshan Yi affairs office was established in 1950, belonging to muerping and Zhanhe working sites. After the birth of the Autonomous County in 1956, it belongs to Yangping district. In 1958, Zhanhe commune was established. In 1984, it was renamed Zhanhe district. It was changed to Zhanhe Township in 1987.
