Kunming Economic and Technological Development Zone, founded in 1992, was approved as a national development zone by the State Council on February 13, 2000. Kunming Economic Development Zone is located in the triangle regional center of Kunming old city, Chenggong New District and Kunming Changshui International Airport, with a state approved area of 11.8 square kilometers (including 2 square kilometers of export processing zone), and an actual jurisdiction area of 156.6 square kilometers. Development history
On May 20, 1992, with the consent of Yunnan provincial Party committee and Yunnan provincial government, Kunming municipal government decided to establish Kunming Economic and Technological Development Zone (hereinafter referred to as "Kunming Economic and Technological Development Zone") in niujiezhuang, east suburb of Kunming.
On March 15, 1993, the Yunnan provincial government approved Kunming Economic and Technological Development Zone as a provincial economic and Technological Development Zone.
On November 13, 1998, the Yunnan provincial government approved Kunming Economic Development Zone as a provincial high-tech industrial development zone.
On February 13, 2000, with the approval of the State Council, Kunming Economic and Technological Development Zone was promoted to the national economic and Technological Development Zone.
In March 2008, Kunming municipal government decided to entrust the offices of alayi township (now ala Street) and Luoyang sub district of Chenggong county (now Chenggong District) in Guandu District to Kunming Economic Development Zone. The scope of Kunming Economic Development Zone includes part of Guandu District and part of Chenggong district.
