Boyang town (yuantianwan township) is historically known as "Boyang township". Before 1991, it was two small townships under the jurisdiction of Dashan District, Xinzhai and Tianwan. At the beginning of 1992, Dashan district was abolished and the former two townships were merged. The township governs 14 administrative villages and 118 villager groups. In 2007, 14 administrative villages were merged into 8 villages. In January 2015, with the approval of the provincial people's government, it was agreed to abolish Tianwan township of Xingren county and establish a new Boyang town of Xingren city. The newly established Boyang town governs yuantianwan Township and the town people's government is stationed in Tianwan neighborhood committee. In June 2015, the people's Government of Boyang town of Xingren city was officially established.
