Mazha town
Mazha town is a town under the jurisdiction of Weining Yi Hui Miao Autonomous County in Guizhou Province. It is located in the southwest of Weining County, with a total area of 275.39 square kilometers, 17 administrative villages (communities) and a population of 43219. Mazha, a place name in Yi language, means the place where azaleas are in full bloom.
Name and origin
Mazha is a place name in Yi language, which means azalea Chongzi.
Evolution of administrative districts
It was established in February 1953.
In October 1958, the management area was changed.
In 1961, it merged with demo to form Macha commune.
In 1963, it was separated from the Mazar commune.
In June 1984, Macha commune was transformed into a township, belonging to Heishi district.
In 1992, demo, Jiali and fule townships in Heishi district were merged into Mazha township.
In 2013, the people's Government of Guizhou Province issued the reply of the people's Government of Guizhou Province on Approving the withdrawal of Xiushui Township, Shuanglong Township and Mazha township to establish a town in Weining Autonomous County (QFH [2013] No. 244), which agreed to abolish the organizational system of Mazha Township in Weining autonomous County and set up Mazha town with the Township People's Government stationed in diaoshui village. After the establishment of the town, the administrative area under its jurisdiction will remain unchanged.
