Dongkou village of our town is located in the northwest of Ziyun Miao Buyi Autonomous County. 482 county roads run through the whole village. It has a population of 652 households and 2843 people. More than 90% of the farmers live on both sides of the road, so the traffic is very convenient. The terrain of the whole village is relatively flat, with soil slopes in the majority, and the natural conditions are excellent, which is suitable for large-scale agricultural cultivation.
In the 1970s, Dongkou village began to plant yirenmi, and the planting area expanded year by year. Since 1990, farmers began to plant yirenmi on a large scale. The planting area centered on Dongkou radiated the surrounding villages, with an average of more than 5 mu per household. A few farmers planted 20-30 mu. Only in Dongkou village, yirenmi reached 5000 mu at the most. At that time, Dongkou village looked all over the mountains It's all Yiren rice. From 1998 to 2000, it became a well-known Yiren rice distribution center with an annual throughput of 5000 tons. After rough processing, its products were mainly sold to Guangzhou, Dalian, Sichuan, Hunan, Taiwan, South Korea, etc. Dongkou village became a well-known Yiren rice distribution center.
After 2000, due to the change of market economy, the market of Yiren rice was weak, the supply exceeded the demand, the market of Yiren rice was not smooth, the price was greatly reduced, the planting area was sharply reduced, the enthusiasm of farmers was greatly hit, and the Yiren rice planting industry in Dongkou Village fell into an unprecedented low.
In 2006, with the increase of demand from other places, the market reopened, and the planting area gradually picked up. Combined with the recovery of Yiren rice market, the Party committee and government of Bandang town put forward the industrial development idea of "tea up the mountain, Yiren rice down the field", and actively promoted the large-scale cultivation of Yiren rice. Up to now, according to statistics, the planting area of Dongkou village is more than 4000 mu, and there are nearly 100 households with a single planting area of more than 20 mu, with an annual sales volume of more than 3000 tons.
