The origin of the name
Although there is a saying of "Chunxi in one hundred years", Chunxi Road was built by warlord Yang Sen in 1924. At first, Chunxi Road in Chengdu was named "Senwei road" because of Yang Sen's title of "Senwei general". Later, it was renamed "Chunxi Road" after Laozi's "Tao Te Ching" allusion: "all the people are bustling, like enjoying too much, like climbing the spring terrace". It describes the prosperous business, people's bustling and prosperous times.
Chunxi Road was intended to be built into a straight line, but Zheng Shaofu, the owner of Fuji pharmacy in Zongfu street at that time, was the interpreter of the French Consulate, and refused to demolish it, so Yang Sen had to compromise. So in Zhongshan Square, Chunxi East Road and Chunxi West Road, Chunxi South Road and Chunxi North Road are staggered.
Historical evolution
Chunxi Road was named in 1924, 87 years ago, known as Century Golden Street. At that time, Yang Sen, the governor of Sichuan Province, proposed to build it. Yang Sen ordered that all the old yamen be demolished. A street from south to North was built here, and then two streets from east to West were built, named the East, West, South and North sections of Chunxi Road. According to the relevant historical data, Chunxi Road's previous life began in the merchants, issued orders in the government, and completed in the warlord period.
More than one hundred years ago, this was the official yamen of the Qing Dynasty. The Yamen faces south from the north and covers an extremely wide area. There is a long and deep roadway in front of the yamen, which is adjacent to Nanxin Street on the right, Chengshou street and Kejia Lane on the left and zouma Street on the opposite. After the Republic of China, the Yamen was abandoned. Many shantytowns and small shops were occupied in the deep alley in front of zouma street. In the old yamen, a middle school was set up. In an instant, the old officialdom turned into a market. The Hawker's cry, the shop's name, the flag, the bargaining, the noise of people, and the small commodity market came into being.
In the spring of 1924, Yang Sen, a warlord who became governor of Sichuan Province, took charge of Chengdu. At the beginning of taking office, he demolished the houses around the former chanchashi yamen, followed the example of Western Europe, improved municipal administration, and built roads. In this way, a new road with four sections of East, West, South, and North was built, with a ten character intersection and a street garden specially built.
After the new road was built, Yang Sen urged Jiang Ziyu, a former Qing Dynasty scholar in Shuangliu County, to name it. Jiang Ziyu knew that Yang Sen was a great success, so he named the new road "Senwei road". This street name seems to be a bit foreign, but in fact, it contains a moral, intended to support. At that time, the Beiyang Government awarded Yang Sen the title of "Senwei" general.
Yang Sen was expelled from Chengdu in the war of "unifying Sichuan", and then "Senwei road" was changed to "Chunxi Road". Why did you change your name? Why Chunxi Road? Of course, the name change is to remove the traces of Janssen. And Chunxi Road, there are several views. After Yang Sen's defeat, Jiang Ziyu suggested to the relevant authorities that "Senwei road" should be changed to "Chunxi Road". It is said that Mr. Chen Yuefang, a famous calligrapher and poet, once served as the Secretary of Chengdu Municipal governor Wang zanxu, gave the name of this road, which means that "the spring breeze is warm, and the people's sons are coming from the city". Therefore, the street is called "Chunxi Road".
There is a monument in the street garden of Chunxi Road, on which there is a standing bronze statue of Dr. Sun Yat Sen. it was completed in early 1928. In 1943, when she Zhongying was the mayor of Chengdu, she thought that the bronze statue was somewhat distorted, so she invited Liu Kaiqu, a famous sculptor, to remodel one. Today, the sitting statue of Sun Yat sen in the garden is Liu Kaiqu's masterpiece.
After the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution", Chunxi Road was changed to "anti imperialist road" on August 24, 1966. Because of its special status in Chengdu, it became the main place for Chengdu Red Guards' activities, and finally it was changed back to "Chunxi Road".
Leading business
Compared with other business districts in Chengdu, Chunxi Road is a favorite shopping place for foreign tourists and local white-collar workers. Chunxi Road business district is also full of large shopping malls and hotels.
Many famous Chinese time-honored Chengdu snacks, such as Zhong Shuijiao, Lai Tangyuan, Hufu feipian, Han Baozi and long chaoshou, gather on Chunxi Road. At the same time, there are also many fast food restaurants, such as McDonald's, KFC, pizza hut, Haagen Dazs, breadtalk and Manchester United bar, as well as many cafes and teahouses.
Comprehensive layout
After the reform and opening up in the 1980s, Chunxi Road was prosperous again. In September 1992, the night market on Chunxi Road opened for the first time in history. It is said that in those years, a night market stall could be sold for 40000 to 50000 yuan. Chunxi Road night market creates a profit of 1000 yuan per meter. Later, according to the development of urban economy, the night market was canceled. After several years of reconstruction and expansion, Chunxi Road changed greatly.
On April 15, 2001, the executive meeting of Chengdu municipal government approved the Chunxi Road reconstruction plan. On May 8, 2001, Chengdu municipal government started the reconstruction and expansion project of Chunxi Road commercial pedestrian street in Chengdu. The old street has taken on a new look. This is the largest and most changing cosmetic operation in Chunxi Road's 100 year history.
On February 10, 2002, after careful renovation, Chengdu Chunxi Road Pedestrian Street opened, and 100000 tourists flocked to it. On this day, Chunxi Road became an exquisite public art work in the superposition of modern commerce and urban context. At the north entrance of Chunxi Road, there is an art wall of Chengdu folk relief carved with granite, which depicts the eight major landscapes of Chengdu in the Tang Dynasty: temple fair, flower fair, lantern fair, mulberry picking, hibiscus, Zhuojin, brocade weaving and wine making.
Unique logo
When Chunxi Road became more and more famous, it was proposed that Centennial golden street should have its unique logo, namely street sign. The street sign was designed by Liu Guoyuan, a designer from Hangzhou. The calligraphy art was used to combine the two characters "Chunxi" into a whole. The "Ri" under the "Chun" and the "Chen" on the left of the "Xi" overlapped and simplified into a square with the word "1924" inside. The whole design is mainly red and yellow. The square hole in the logo represents ancient coins and is a symbol of wealth. 1924 is the time when Chunxi Road was named, and the four points under the sign symbolize the bustling crowd, implying the popularity of pedestrian street.
On the back of the logo, there is an allusion of the origin of "Chunxi" -- "all people are happy, just like climbing the spring platform". The whole design not only reflects the long commercial history of Chunxi Road, but also reflects the characteristics of Chunxi Road as a well-known commercial street in China.
comprehensive strength
In 2005, according to the six major indexes of eye care, food, convenience, rest, popularity and business, new weekly once again launched the "list of China's commercial streets". Chunxi Road, known as the first commercial street in the central and western regions, the first business highland in the central and Western Regions, and the golden street in Chengdu, entered the top three of the list, second only to Causeway Bay in Hong Kong and Nanjing Road in Shanghai (followed by Wangfujing in Beijing, ximending in Taipei, and Jinjie in Chengdu) Wuhan Jianghan Road, Guangzhou Beijing Road, Nanjing Hunan Road, Zhengzhou Dehua Street, Harbin Central Street).
Hong Kong's Ta Kung Pao said: "Chunxi Road is where the city is going to dig gold; Chunxi Road is where the fashion is going; Chunxi Road is where the beauty is going You don't want to go anywhere? You can still go to Chunxi Road. " The reason why Chunxi Road of Chengdu ranks third is that it has a high eye care index and food index. In addition, the rest index, popularity index and business index are relatively high. Speaking of Chengdu Business District, Chengdu people can't get around Chunxi Road, just as Shanghai people can't get around Nanjing Road, and Beijing people can't get around Xidan and Wangfujing. As the most prosperous commercial street in Chengdu, Chunxi Road has not only been an important place for Chengdu people to sell money and play, but also inherited the unique cultural temperament of the city. The southwest first only brand lattice store "masager" is also located here.
If outsiders come to Chengdu and don't visit Chunxi Road, it's just as regrettable as if they don't go to Wangfujing road in Beijing and Nanjing Road in Shanghai. Chunxi Road is not only the fashion center of Chengdu, a place for beauties to visit, but also a place for delicious snacks.
As for Chunxi Road, the new weekly said that this commercial street with the beautiful idea of "bustling, like a spring terrace" has become the pronoun of Chengdu's charm, extending its influence from many aspects. It is the fashion bulletin board of Chengdu, where nearly a century's commercial popularity and Chengdu beauties flow; it is the popular culture station of Chengdu, where the National Street trends and brands are beating in the same pulse.
