Mawang Town, subordinate to Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County of Chongqing, is located in the east of Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County. It is connected with youshuihe town in the East, Longtan town in the south, Taohuayuan street in the West and Ganxi town in the north. It is 45 kilometers away from Youyang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, with a total area of 262.86 square kilometers.
In 1928, Mawang town was named Mawang township. In July 2001, Mawang township was replaced by Mawang town. By the end of 2018, the population of Mawang town registered residence was 56263. As of June 2020, Mawang town has 15 administrative villages and the people's Government of Mawang town is located in Guixiang village.
Mawang town is rich in rice, corn, wheat, vegetables, rape, beans, etc., with green pepper as the main fruit forest; grass tobacco, Artemisia annua and other economic crops; and freshwater fishery as the main animal husbandry. In 2018, Mawang town had 41 industrial enterprises and 45 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters.
History of construction
Mawang town was named after the town government's former residence in Mawang town.
In 1928, Mawang township was established. In 1935, it was subordinate to the second district (Longtan).
In January 1955, Mawang district was named after Mawang field.
In November 1958, Mawang commune was established.
In July 1962, Mawang commune established Ji'an commune.
In March 1963, Ji'an commune was merged into Mawang commune.
In 1983, Mawang commune was changed into Mawang township.
In February 1984, Chetian Township and Yudi Township were merged into Mawang township.
In July 2001, Mawang township was changed from township to town.
