Nansheng Town, subordinate to Wuzhishan City, Hainan Province, is located in the southeast of Wuzhishan City, adjacent to Baoting County in the northeast and south, Shuiman Township in the north, Tongshi town in the West and northwest; its geographical coordinates are between 18 ° 44 ′ N and 109 ° 35 ′ E; its total administrative area is 152.8 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, the total population of nanshang town is 10513.
Nansheng Town, formerly known as Zhima, belongs to Lingshui County. In 1936, shuimantong in Ding'an County was merged into Zhixiang and changed to Baoting county. In 1948, Tongshi township was established. In 1949, it changed its name to cultural township. In 1961, Nansheng commune was established. In 1987, the town was established, belonging to Tongshi city (changed to Wuzhishan City in 2001). As of June 2020, nanshang town has jurisdiction over six administrative villages.

Nansheng is a transliteration of Li language, which means "abundant water resources".
Evolution of organizational system
From the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the 23rd year of the Republic of China (1934), the jurisdiction of Nansheng town was composed of Nansheng and tongjiadong. Nansheng was originally called Zhima, belonging to Zhima bow in Lingshui County. Tongjiadong (including Maoxiang) is under the jurisdiction of Ding'an County. In March of 1935, Baoting county and Zhima Township were set up. On May 7 of the same year, three districts and 14 townships were set up in Baoting County, and nanshang township was under the jurisdiction of the first district. In July of 1947, Baoting county had 14 townships, including nanshang township. In April of 1948, Baoting County democratic government was established, and nanshang district had cultural Township, which was the third district of Baoting county District jurisdiction.
In June 1950, Baoting county had jurisdiction over four districts and 32 townships. Nansheng township is under the jurisdiction of the third district of Baoting county. On August 29 of the same year, Baoting county carried out regionalization adjustment, abolished the district level political power, implemented the administrative construction of townships under the direct leadership of the county, and established 13 townships including cultural townships. On December 31 of the same year, Baoting County abolished 13 big townships and restored the establishment of district townships. Five districts and 56 townships were set up in the county. Cultural townships were divided into Nansheng Township and Tongjia township. Nansheng town was under the jurisdiction of the fourth district.
In May 1951, the administrative division of Baoting county was adjusted, and Nansheng township was under the jurisdiction of the third district.
In June 1953, Honggou township was separated.
In November 1955, Baoting county changed its number to the name of the District, Baosan district to Tongshi District, and Nansheng Township, Tongjia Township and Honggou Township were under the jurisdiction of Tongshi district.
On December 24, 1956, Nansheng Township and Honggou Township were merged into Nansheng township.
On March 3, 1958, nanshang Township, Maoan Township and Tongjia Township were merged into nanshang Township, which is located in nanshang village.
In September 1958, Nansheng township was merged with Tongshi Town, Fu'an cadre farm, Fu'an demonstration farm and state-owned Tongshi tea farm to form the Hongqi people's commune in Tongshi town. In December, it was under the jurisdiction of Ya county.
In November 1959, it was under the jurisdiction of Baoting county.
In May 1961, Nansheng people's commune was established.
In September 1966, Maoan commune was established under the jurisdiction of Nansheng commune.
In 1983, Nansheng people's commune was changed into Nansheng district office.
In 1986, it was transferred to Tongshi city.
In January 1987, it was renamed Nansheng town. It has jurisdiction over six village committees and 29 natural villages, namely Maoxiang, Tongjia, Yanan, Shilan, Honghe and Nansheng.
