Beigeng Township
Beigeng township is a famous hometown of Mulberry Cocoon and honeysuckle in Laibin city. It is located in the south of Xincheng County, adjacent to bannei village of Gupeng town in the East, Guda village of Jiafang township of Mashan County in the west, Nongchen village of Tanghong township of Shanglin County in the South and Suiyi Township in the North. Beigeng Township Committee member of the Communist Party of China and the Township People's government are located in beigeng street. The township government is 44 kilometers away from the county seat, and there is a class IV Highway from Xincheng to Mashan running through the township. There are 14 village committees in the township (14 village committees of beigeng, Xiya, Fenghuang, Guli, neiren, nonglan, Jiale, Jiameng, Jialan, Yawen, Longmen, Baifu, Jiafu and Tangtai), 324 village groups, with a total population of 26459 at the end of 2002.
Beigeng township is a poverty-stricken township at the level of autonomous region, with 92.2% of stone mountain area and only 0.77 mu of cultivated land per capita. It is known as "nine stones and one soil". It is also called "barren land" and "a place not suitable for human survival" (an official of FAO).
Historical evolution
In the period of the Republic of China, beigeng regiment was first set up, and then beigeng township was set up, which was under the jurisdiction of the six northern districts of Shanglin county. In December 1952, beigeng was assigned to Xincheng County as part of the ninth district. It was restored on August 7, 1984. It is located in the south of the county, covering 196.46 square kilometers. In 1990, there were 373 natural villages, 133 villager committees and 324 villager groups, 7515 households and 28956 people, including 13575 women and 14173 labor force.
Economic overview
The land area of the township is 20494.44 mu, including 602.4 mu of paddy field and 17691.4 mu of early farmland. The main products of agriculture are corn, sweet potato and soybean; sheep and rabbit are the main products of animal husbandry; there are coal fields in township enterprises; there are abundant dolomite in the territory, which has broad development prospects. In the township, there are three small fairs, beigeng, Jiafu and nonglan, with three fairs each for three days. In 2002, the total agricultural output value of the township was 30 million yuan, the business income of enterprises was 105.6 billion yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers was 1285 yuan.

In 2004, the per capita income of honeysuckle project alone reached 360 yuan. In addition, the township vigorously develop the mulberry industry. By the end of 2002, the mulberry garden area was 10150 mu, with an annual output of fresh cocoons of 1100 tons. Honeysuckle and mulberry cocoon become new highlights of farmers' income. The former "barren land" and "places unsuitable for human existence" no longer exist.

The township has a junior high school, a central primary school, 13 village primary schools, 157 in-service primary and secondary school teachers and 3289 students. Guputun in beigeng township is a village surrounded by mountains on three sides. It is a typical village of Zhuang people's bar style residential buildings.
