Huanggang Town, subordinate to Raoping County, Guangdong Province, is located on the coast of the South China Sea and at the junction of Fujian and Guangdong. Its center is located at 116 ° 6 ′ E and 23 ° 4 ′ n. It is adjacent to Zhao'an County, Fujian Province in the East, Qiandong town in the west, Nanhai town in the south, and lianrao town in the north. It is between Shantou and Xiamen special economic zones. It is the county seat of Raoping County and the political, economic and cultural center of Raoping County.
As of 2012, Huanggang town has a total area of 96.6 square kilometers, which governs 24 administrative villages, 12 communities and 1 comprehensive farm. The town has 2682 mu of garden land, 25532 mu of forest land and 10933 mu of shallow beach. The town has 197 thousand registered residence and 26 thousand overseas Chinese.
In 2012, the total agricultural output value of Huanggang town was 602 million yuan, the per capita income of farmers was 6915 yuan, the total industrial output value was 3.846 billion yuan, the foreign trade export was 180 million US dollars, the annual foreign trade export was more than 1 million US dollars in 23 enterprises, and the profit and tax was 418 million yuan. In 2010, it was awarded the title of "technical innovation town of Guangdong Province" and "hometown of Chinese folk culture and art" in 2011.
In October 2019, Huanggang town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019".
History of construction
Huanggang has a long history. It was founded in 1245 A.D. in Song Dynasty. It was called Wengcheng or fengjiang in ancient times. It is said that this place was huangtougang in ancient times, so it was named Huanggang. Because "Gang" is similar to "Gang", it was renamed Huanggang.
In song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Huanggang town has always been an important military town in eastern Guangdong. According to the records of Sanyang annals, during the guimao period of song Chunyou (1243), Zheng Liangchen, the magistrate of Chaozhou, was ordered to set up a city village in Huanggang. After Li Yu succeeded him, he added army houses and built the city with stones. In 1245, he completed the construction and stationed 100 soldiers. In the Song Dynasty, Huanggang City village was an important military gateway of Chaozhou Prefecture, which was under the jurisdiction of the Shuijun village in Fupu.

In 1548, Yu Tingren, a resident of the Ming Dynasty, filed a petition to build a city to resist the pirates. Chaozhou governor Guo Chunzhen rebuilt. Inside and outside the city are stone, more than 1200 Zhang circumference, four doors, more than 7000 liang of silver. In the next year, the work will be completed. Since then, Huanggang, also known as Wengcheng, was an important military arch city of Chaozhou prefecture to defend the southeast sea.
In 1549, Chaozhou government set up a coastal defense Museum in Huanggang.
In the 40th year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1561), Huanggang added a general judge, and moved to Chaozhou Youying to guard here.
In 1644, the first year of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty, Wu Liuqi, the commander of Rao Town, rebuilt Huanggang City. The walls of the city were thickened and reinforced again, 650 meters in circumference and more than 1 meter in height. The walls were twice as strong as before, but the scale of the city was nearly half smaller than that of the old city.
In 1664, the government ordered the residents of Longyan City, Xuanhua city and Xinning city of Raoping to move within 50 Li, and demolished Huanggang City (dachengsuo was also demolished). From then on, Huanggang City was abandoned for eight years.
In 1669 (the eighth year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty), the immigrants were allowed to return to their hometown and resume their work.
In 1672, song zhengbi, the magistrate of Chaozhou, rebuilt Huanggang city again. The city is still divided into four gates. The east gate is in the east of today's department stores, and the city wall goes around the ring road from the top of the vegetable market, passing through the north gate, the west gate, the south gate, and along dingmo road to the department stores, forming an oval shape.
In the Qing Dynasty, two battalions were set up at the left and right of Huanggang Association in Chaozhen Town, with one deputy general, one Dusi and one garrison, two thousand generals and four general generals, 578 soldiers and 58 horses; in the late Qing Dynasty, Zhelin division was also set up in the east gate of Huanggang.
In 1928, Huanggang was established as a political district.
Huanggang town was established in 1940. During the period of the Republic of China, Huanggang town was one of the three towns in Raoping.
In 1950, it was once Huanggang District, under the jurisdiction of 10 townships including shanchu, xiarao, qubei, Dahe, Daxin, Hongjiang, Hongcheng, lincun, Dongjie, Weizhou and Huanggang town.
In August 1951, the people's Government of Raoping County set up an office in Huanggang Town, which set up a separate town with six offices.
In January 1953, Raoping County was moved from Sanrao town to Huanggang town.
In September 1958, Huanggang, fengjiang, Jizhou and Lianshan merged to form fengjiang people's commune. In June 1959, it separated from fengjiang people's Commune and established Huanggang people's commune.
In 1983, the establishment of Huanggang Town People's government was restored.
In September 1986, Xianchun and bigang townships and Fengzhou District in the eastern boundary were merged into Huanggang town.
The town government was originally located in Caicuo Temple of Huanggang, Dingwei road. In 1997, it was changed to Yanhe North Road of Huanggang town.
