Tuocheng town
TuoCheng Town, also known as the old city of Longchuan, Longchuan city and Xunzhou City, was later renamed Tuocheng in memory of Zhao Tuo. It belongs to Longchuan County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. It is located in the south of Longchuan County and adjacent to Liucheng, Lankou and other towns in Dongyuan County in the Southwest. The town government is located in Zhongshan street, Xuzhen Town, 8 kilometers away from Longchuan County, with a total area of 218 square kilometers. At the end of 2018, the total number of registered residence in Tuo Town was 47067. As of June 2020, Tuocheng town has one community and 17 administrative villages.
Tuocheng town has a history of about 2200 years. It is the earliest ancient county in Lingnan. In the Qin Dynasty, Longchuan County was established as a county seat. It is one of the first 11 famous historical and cultural cities in Guangdong Province. It is also a Hakka settlement in the Dongjiang River Basin. It is known as "an ancient town in the Qin Dynasty, a famous city in the Han and Tang Dynasties". Tuocheng has been the seat of Longchuan County since Zhao Tuo set up a garrison for Longchuan County Magistrate. It was also the seat of Longchuan County and Xunzhou county. It was the place where Zhao Tuo, the king of Nanyue, made his fortune. It was also an important political, economic, cultural and military town in the middle and upper reaches of Dongjiang River for thousands of years. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, the Central Plains culture and Baiyue culture blended and developed here. In addition, Tuocheng is surrounded by rivers and has convenient waterway transportation. It was opened as a commercial port in Tang and Song dynasties. By the middle of Ming Dynasty, Tuocheng had the most prosperous economy. Tuocheng is listed as the key cultural relics protection units in Guangdong Province, including Zhengxiang tower, kengzili Neolithic cultural site and Longchuan Academy.
In 2013, the gross national product of Tuocheng town reached 995 million yuan, an increase of 11.1% over 2012, of which the added value of the primary industry was 203 million yuan, an increase of 7.8%; the added value of the secondary industry was 494 million yuan, an increase of 23.5%; and the added value of the tertiary industry was 298 million yuan, an increase of 33.6%. The annual tax revenue was 15 million yuan, including 10.3 million yuan of national tax and 4.7 million yuan of local tax.
Historical evolution
In the Qin Dynasty, Longchuan County was established in Tuocheng. In the 33rd year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (214 BC), Lingnan was pacified, Longchuan County was set up, Zhao Tuo was the first magistrate, and Tu Cheng was built in today's Tuo city.
At the beginning of the Southern Han Dynasty, Xunzhou was moved to Tuocheng, where prefectures and counties coexisted for more than 400 years.
During the Xining period of the Northern Song Dynasty, the ancient Earth City of the Qin Dynasty was expanded into a brick city.
In the Qing Dynasty, Tuo city was set up in the city.
During the two thousand years from Qin Dynasty to the Republic of China, Tuocheng was the seat of the county or prefecture, except that the county government moved northward in the Southern Dynasty.
In 1941, it was renamed Tuocheng in memory of Zhao Tuo.
During the period of the Republic of China, it was subordinate to the first district of Longchuan County (Laolong).
In 1949, the county government moved to Laolong and established Tuocheng town.
In 1958, Tuocheng people's commune was established.
In 1983, it was divided into districts.
In 1986, the district was removed and the town was established.

History and culture
The origin of place names
Tuocheng, formerly known as Longchuan City, was later called Xunzhou City, and later renamed Tuocheng in memory of Zhao Tuo. According to historical records, Qin Shihuang established Longchuan County in Nanhai, Guilin and Xiang counties after calming down Nanyue. Zhao Tuo, the hero of calming down Lingnan, was appointed as the magistrate of Longchuan County. Later, he went to Panyu (today's Guangzhou) to serve as the commander of Nanhai. In the early western Han Dynasty, he established Nanyue state and called himself Nanyue King. In memory of him, later generations called the Longchuan County he built the Yituo City, Zhao Tuo's old city.

Longchuan is a place where Hakkas live together. The language used by Longchuan people belongs to the regional dialect of Chinese Hakka dialect, which is called Longchuan dialect according to the general habit. Tuocheng dialect belongs to Laolong dialect in Longchuan Hakka dialect.
Hakka culture
The original County town of Longchuan (Tuocheng) is a pure Hakka area in the Dongjiang River valley where the Hakka ancestors first lived. In the long historical process, the Central Plains culture and Lingnan culture of Tuocheng have accumulated profound Hakka culture and formed a unique Hakka spirit full of idealism and realism.
Surname culture
According to statistics at the end of 2005, there are 179 surnames in Tuocheng town and 140 in Tuocheng village. Some villages and blocks have different surnames. According to the research of historians, Zhao Tuo, the king of Nanyue, had been stationed in YueDi before the unification of Lingnan in the 33rd year of Emperor Qinshihuang (214 BC). During the six years when he was the first magistrate of Longchuan under Nanhai County, he moved a group of prisoners from Shaanxi to live together with the aborigines. A total of 15000 women from all over the North came to Longchuan to marry the soldiers and set up a family and business in Longchuan. From then on, there were so many surnames in Tuocheng It is a historical witness that the Central Plains people's Congress moved southward and settled in Lingnan in Qin Dynasty.
