Historical evolution
The origin of the name
Jiangtun town is located in the east of the county, called Gangtun in ancient times. Gangtunwei was established in 1799, which was an important town in western Guangdong. The origin of the name "Gangtun" has many different views, mainly two kinds: first, there are many hills scattered around the place, low and flat, and the local people often call these hills "Gangtun". At first, some families built houses on these hills and settled down. As time goes by, more and more people come here to settle down and become more and more popular. Many small villages have been built on the top of the mountain, so this place is called "Gangtun", which means "many residents and villages gather on the mountain". Second, it is said that in ancient times, because it was located at the junction of Guangning, Sihui and Qingyuan, it was the throat and the situation was dangerous. The government sent troops to garrison on the small hills and set it as a frontier garrison to protect the peace of one side, so it was named "Gangtun", which means "the small hills where officers and soldiers are stationed". Later, the majority of the residents in the area were "Jiangs", and the pronunciation of "Gang" and "Jiang" was the same, so "Gangtun" was renamed "Jiangtun" and became "xiaoshangang" where Jiangtun family lived.
Evolution of organizational system
During the reign of Daoguang in Qing Dynasty, Jiangtun belonged to the area of demolishing Shipu and building a fort. In 1937, it belonged to Wuyang region.
