Qujie town

Qujie Town, the first pineapple town in China, is under the jurisdiction of Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. It is about 28 kilometers away from Xuwen County. It is one of the central towns in Guangdong Province. With a total area of 155.93 square kilometers (2017) and a population of 44612 people (2017), the town has 13 village committees, 1 community and 3 town run farms. The hills are scattered in the whole town. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with abundant sunshine, abundant rainfall and brick red loam. It is more suitable for pineapple planting area and is known as "pineapple sea".

Qujie town was selected into the list of demonstration construction of strong agricultural towns in 2018.

Historical evolution

The origin of place names

Qujiewei was formed in the early Qing Dynasty. Among the residents of Jiwei, most of them are from other places, so they are called "Ke Jie" (i.e. "Ke Jie"). It is said that a scholar of jinnangyu in the Qing Dynasty had to go to Leizhou prefecture to take the exam. After a day's hiking, he arrived at the guest world fair. After inquiring, he knew that the exam time was over. He was very disappointed and wrote on the shop wall: "Qushui, Qushan, ququ's future will come to qujie." This is the first sentence, but the second couplet is still missing. The next day, a person from Gaozhou came here to perform arts. He finally said: "Gaocai, Gaode, gaowu is in Gaozhou." It was widely spread that "Qu Jie" replaced "Ke Jie" (Leizhou Dialect: Ke and Qu have the same pronunciation). At that time, the main street was north-south, and people often had disputes. In 1734, Ninghai Inspection Department moved from Hai'an to qujiewei to strengthen the public security management and adjust the main street to the east-west direction. In the name of Wuwei Jiuan, it was renamed Wuan city. Later, it was also called qujiewei.

Evolution of administrative districts

Qujie Town, in Ming and Qing Dynasties, belonged to Jishan township of Xuwen County. In the early years of the Republic of China, qujie town was established along the Qing Dynasty; in 1931, qujie town was established, belonging to the Second District of Xuwen County (also known as the Upper East District), and the district office was located in qujiewei; in the 30th year of the Republic of China, qujie town was still established after the division and merging of districts and townships.
