Maichen town
Located in the southwest of Leizhou Peninsula, Maichen town is under the jurisdiction of Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. The town is adjacent to Nanshan Town in the East, Jiaowei Township and Xilian town in the west, Qiongzhou Strait in the south, Yingli town of Leizhou City and Xiaqiao town of Xuwen County in the north. The southwest and northwest are close to Beibu Gulf.
The town government is located in maichenwei, 20 kilometers away from the county. It covers an area of 123 square kilometers. The town has a sub humid monsoon climate. The agricultural sea is rich in resources, and the sea area is suitable for breeding sea cucumber, pearl and prawn. Xindi, Maichen and Dongchang are rich in prawns, green crabs, pearls and oysters. The salt content in Xindi, guantian and other harbors is 30 ‰ - 35 ‰, so it is suitable to develop salt industry. The land of each village committee is fertile, and it is an important planting base for vegetables, fruits and sweet corn in the west of Xuwen County.

Maichen town is a gentle undulating slope, broad flat platform. The geology is mostly latosol with deep soil layer and high fertility. Located in the north tropics, Maichen town has a sub humid monsoon climate, which is regulated by the marine climate all the year round. There is no severe cold in winter and no severe heat in summer. The average annual temperature is 24.1 ℃. The extreme high temperature is 38.5 ℃, the extreme low temperature is 3.4 ℃, the sunshine time is long, and the average sunshine hours over the years is 2078.7 hours. The rainfall is abundant, with an average annual rainfall of 1163.1 mm, but the rainfall varies greatly from year to year. The rainy season is from April to September, and the dry season is from October to March. East wind and southeast wind prevailed throughout the year, and tropical storms and typhoons affected the whole year from May to October.

Historical evolution
Maichen Town, formed in the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty, was originally called Mengsong, which means more drizzle. It is said that during the reign of the Qing Dynasty, Chen Zhaoming, a businessman, moved from Putian, Fujian Province to open a shop here. The neighboring villagers also went to chenjiadian to do business one after another, and the business was very prosperous. Then foreign businessmen and nearby farmers also gathered here, gradually forming a trade center. In order to move closer to the Chen family, it was renamed maichenwei. A village nearby is called Maichen village, where the surname Chen lived. (in Zhuang language, "Mai" means village, and Maichen is the village of the surname Chen). During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, this place belonged to renzheng township.
In 1734, the inspection department of Dongchang was moved to maichenwei, which had jurisdiction over Dongchang society, Nalang society and nasong society. In the early years of the Republic of China, Maichen town was established in 1931, which was subordinate to the Fifth District of Xuwen County (also known as the Western District), and the district office was stationed in maichenwei. In 29, it belonged to the third district. In 30, Maichen town was still established. In 34, it was merged with Daihuang Town, which was called maidai town.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it merged with Xijiao Township in 1949 and was called Maixi township; after May 1950, it belonged to the third district; in 1957, it was changed into Maichen township; in 1958, it merged with Xilian and nalian townships and established Maichen people's commune (also known as Yuejin commune); in 1961, Maichen commune was set up as Maichen, Xilian, Jiaowei and nalian communes; in 1967, nalian and Jiaowei communes were merged into Maichen commune In 1979, Maichen commune was divided into three communes: Maichen commune, Jiaowei commune and Dahuang commune; in 1983, Maichen commune was changed into Maichen district; in 1987, it was renamed Maichen town; in 2002, Dahuang township was abolished, among which guantian, Baipo and Qingtong village committees were merged into Maichen town.
Economic situation
In 2007, the gross domestic product of Maichen town was 527.24 million yuan, an increase of 11.15%, including 382.64 million yuan of agricultural output value, an increase of 11.5%, 48.18 million yuan of industrial output value, an increase of 9.8%, and 96.45 million yuan of tertiary industry output value, an increase of 10.5%. The terrain is relatively flat.
