Historical evolution
Kengzi was established late, and its administrative division and Pingshan were analyzed several times.
In Ming and Qing Dynasties, Kengzi belonged to Guishan county.
In 1912, Guishan county was renamed Huiyang County, and Kengzi belonged to Huiyang county.
In September 1931, Huiyang county was divided into districts, townships and towns. Kengzi became a township level system for the first time.
After the founding of new China, Kengzi township was subordinate to the Fourth District of Huiyang county.
In December 1957, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. Kengzi township was merged into Pingshan township.
In October 1958, a commune was established, and Kengzi was subordinate to Pingshan commune of Huiyang county. In November of the same year, Pingshan commune was transferred to Bao'an County, and the subordinate relationship of Kengzi changed accordingly.
In July 1961, it was separated from Pingshan commune and established the state-owned Kengzi farm, which is directly under the Guangzhou Bureau of land reclamation.
In January 1963, the state-owned Kengzi farm was changed into Kengzi brigade and returned to Pingshan commune.
In July 1983, the commune was changed into a district under Pingshan district.
In October 1986, Kengzi town was founded after it separated from Pingshan Town.
In January 1993, Baoan county was divided into Baoan District and Longgang District, and Kengzi town was subordinate to Longgang District.
In 2004, all towns in Longgang District were removed and streets were set up, while Kengzi street was still under the jurisdiction of Longgang District.
On October 20, 2016, Pingshan and Kengzi were divided into Pingshan, Malan, biling, Shijing, Kengzi and Longtian.
Pingshan district was established on January 7, 2017, and Kengzi street is subordinate to Pingshan district.

Place name source
From the perspective of archaeological excavation, Kengzi has a long history, and the written records about human living here began in the middle of Ming Dynasty. In 1691, a Huang family moved from Jiangbian village in Pingshan to Xikeng and established Huang's ancestral hall, which was called "old ancestral hall" by later generations. Xikeng is located in the south of Kengzi Town, surrounded by mountains on three sides, with a big pit in the middle. The area nearby is collectively referred to as "Laokeng". The residents of xinqiaowei, Chengnei, shaliyuan and other villages were separated from Laokeng Village (the "old ancestral hall" of Xikeng). People called these villages "Kengzi", which means the descendants of Laokeng. Because "Zi" and "Zi" are homonymous, later generations changed "Kengzi" to "Kengzi", meaning "Sangzi" and "Zili", implying "Laokeng is the hometown".
cultural relics and historic sites
Xinqiao Shiju is located in xiuxin community of Kengzi. It was built by Huang family of Kengzi in 1753. It is one of the existing Hakka houses in Shenzhen. Xinqiao Shiju is composed of three halls, four horizons, one inverted seat, one Weilong, four watchtowers and one watchtower, covering an area of more than 8000 square meters. In front of the hall, there is a sky street, which is separated from the front wall. There is a memorial archway in the main entrance building. In front of the gate, there is a Heping, a left-right revolving gate, a light wall and a half moon shaped pond. On the upper Hall of the central axis of the ancestral hall, there are plaques such as "Wen Kui" and "en Gong", indicating the prosperity of literary style.
Xiuling Shiju is located in caoduiling village, xiuxin community. Its architecture was built around 1794. Like other enclosed houses, Xiuling Shiju has a pattern of three halls and four horizons. Three doors on the left, middle and right can enter and exit the enclosed house, and the turrets on both sides have disappeared. Judging from the pattern of the enclosed house and the area of the front terrace and the moon pool, we can infer that the enclosed house is not small in scale, and the turrets should have been built when it was built. In this way, Xiuling is the only one to open two gates at the same place and in different generations.
dialect
The dialect used by the aborigines in Kengzi street is Hakka dialect.
