Located in the south of Louxing District, Loudi City, Hunan Province, Shexingshan town is adjacent to xingzipu Town, Shuangfeng County in the East, zimenqiao town in the south, Hongshandian town in the West and Xiangxiang City in the north. The town has a land area of 119 square kilometers (in 2017), 7 responsibility areas, 57 villages, 2 neighborhood committees, and a total population of 54435 (in 2017). There are 2807 hectares of cultivated land, including 2033 hectares of paddy fields. Hongxing highway and Tan Shao highway pass through the middle of the town, with convenient transportation. Rich in coal, natural gas and gypsum resources, it is one of the important industrial towns in Louxing District of Loudi City and one of the top 100 economic towns in Hunan Province.

With the consent of the provincial people's government, the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs officially approved the adjustment of Shuidongdi town in Lianyuan City and Shexingshan town in Shuangfeng County to Louxing district on January 24, 2017. On February 15, the listing ceremonies were held in Shexingshan town and Shuidongdi town respectively.

After the merger of the two villages, the number of administrative villages in Shexingshan town increased from 35 to 37, with an area of 119 square kilometers (2017) and a population of 54435 (2017).
