Shanshan town is located in the north of Louxing district. It is the first established town in Louxing district. In 2015, the former Shanshan town and Xiaobi Township merged to form a new Shanshan town. Shanshan town is 10 kilometers away from Loudi City and 96 kilometers away from Changsha City. Historical evolution

In 1950, it belonged to Shanshan Township and other townships. In 1956, it merged into Shanshan township. In 1958, it belonged to Loudi commune. In 1961, it divided into Shanshan commune and Enkou commune. In 1968, it merged into Shanshan commune. In 1984, it was reformed into a township. In 1986, it was established as a town.
