Historical evolution
It is said that at the end of Xianfeng Period in Qing Dynasty, when a stone bridge on the right side of the current town was built, a stone was laid on the bridge deck with both hands holding a huge stone. In order to praise the stone worker, the bridge was named "Duanqiao". The original bridgehead once opened a shop, so it was named duanqiaopu. It is a rural polder. After the founding of new China, in November 1949, duanqiaopu town was one of the components of the third district (duanqiaopu) and the fourth district (zhumucing). In 1956, duanqiaopu town and zhumucing town were merged. In October 1958, the people's commune movement called satellite (duanqiaopu and shankoupu) and red star (zhumucing) communes respectively. In July 1961, duanqiaopu town and zhumucing town were restored. In December 1986, the township system of duanqiaopu was abolished and renamed town. In 1995, duanqiaopu town and zhumucing town were merged into duanqiaopu town. In May 2016, the township division of Dong'an County was adjusted and reformed, and the established villages were merged into 21 villages, 1 community and 1 neighborhood committee.
