Taohe town
Taohe township is located in the southwest border of Xichuan County, at the junction of Henan and Hubei provinces, 56 kilometers away from the county seat, connecting shengwan town of the county in the East, Meipu and Tanshan towns of Hubei Province in the southwest, and Dashiqiao Township and Siwan town of the county across Danjiang River in the North.
With a land area of 156.27 square kilometers (2017), it has jurisdiction over 40 administrative villages, 110 natural villages and 244 villager groups, with a population of 21335 (2017), cultivated land area of 48000 mu, barren mountain area of 92000 Mu and barren beach area of 22000 mu. It integrates mountainous area, marginal area and reservoir area, and is one of the water source towns of canal head of the Middle Route Project of South to north water diversion.
Historical evolution
Liberated in the autumn of 1948, it merged with Dashiqiao Township and set up three districts.
In 1955, it separated from Dashiqiao Township and built Taohe district alone.
In 1958, Taohe people's commune was established.
In 1983, the people's commune system was abolished and changed into the people's Government of Taohe township.

The water flow in Taohe Township belongs to the Hanjiang River system of the Yangtze River Basin, and the shallow groundwater is mainly supplied by atmospheric precipitation. Because most of the area is mountainous and hilly, and the riverbed is deeply cut, the underground runoff is generally discharged by rivers and converted into surface runoff. However, in some areas, deep groundwater gushes out from rock cracks and forms mountain springs, which continue to flow all the year round.
